The telenovela will replace “Alma Gêmea” in “Vale a Pena Ver de Novo” from December 2
Globo took everyone by surprise with the announcement of its next attraction in “Vale a Pena Ver de Novo”. Contrary to speculation, the broadcaster searched in its trunk for a plot from the late 80s: “Tieta”, based on the work of Jorge Amado, will replace “Alma Gêmea”, an undisputed success at the time.
Written by Aguinaldo Silva in analogue times, the story starring Betty Faria can be considered a bold bet, but not only for technological reasons. With a narrative full of sexual tension, “Tieta” tackles controversial issues that sometimes end up being left out of currently produced soap operas.
It will be interesting to see the serial introduced to a new generation. And again: to understand if in such difficult times, with so many restrictions, Globo will have the courage to demonstrate it in full. As much as there are ratings issues, even if that weren’t the case, seeing sexuality issues placed in such a modern way must surely cause internal noise, as current soap operas have suffered from cuts and script adjustments.
What the casting of “Tieta” highlights, however, is that the broadcaster has sought to reconnect with the roots of the traditional serial to attract an audience loyal to the genre. It’s a nod to the golden age of serials. It’s a shame that it comes at such terrible times.
