The Mais Você presenter said that the Brazilian and the English were friends
Ana Maria Braga made a small gaffe when recalling Ayrton Senna’s story during the More youfrom TV Globo, this Thursday 21. The 75-year-old presenter declared that the three-time Formula 1 world champion was a friend of Lewis Hamilton, a Mercedes driver.

“Formula 1 has never been the same [após a morte de Senna]at least for me. I like Hamilton, who was his friend, I liked him too,” said the presenter, who indicated the seven-time champion as her favorite current driver.
Despite being an avowed fan of the Brazilian, Hamilton never even met him. When Senna died following an accident at the San Marino GP on 1 May 1994, he was just 9 years old.
Despite the age difference, the Briton has always shown idolatry for Senna. Since he was a child, Hamilton competed with helmets in the colors of the Brazilian flag in reference to the three-time champion.
Now established in the sport, he usually maintains the honors every time he comes to Brazil. In this year’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, he also drove the McLaren MP4/5B, used by Senna to win the 1990 world title.
The affection Hamilton has for Senna can be seen in the Brazilians. During the commentary, Ana Maria Braga praised the importance of the driver off the tracks.
“We know how it affects our hearts. This boy represented not only an idol of Formula 1, but a citizen proud to be Brazilian,” he underlined.
