The Good Doctor series inspired a 7-year-old boy to save the life of a schoolmate in New York. According to People magazine, David Diaz Jr. noticed that his classmate choked while eating pizza in the cafeteria of Woodrow Wilson Elementary, the school they both attend in the town of Binghamton.

Since there were no teachers around, David decided to go to his partner’s rescue and performed the Heimlich maneuver to get him out of the situation. The technique consists of applying abdominal pressure on the patient who is choking, freeing him from whatever is causing the obstruction.

The boy explained that he learned the Heimlich maneuver by seeing Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) use it in an episode of “The Good Doctor” along with his father. “If someone is choking or in danger, you always have to help them. If not, something very sad can happen,” he told Fox News.

The child’s heroism received wide coverage in the local media. On June 13, Binghamton School District Superintendent Tonia Thompson and New York State Senator Fred Akshar walked into the classroom where David is studying to praise him for heroism.

The “The Good Doctor” series is made available in Brazil by the Globoplay streaming platform.
