Preta, who was in the United States, returned to Brazil after consulting with an oncologist and revealed that surgery to remove tumors which would have taken place on Sunday 15th, has been postponed to Thursday 19th.

Last week, Preta Gil revealed that she would undergo surgery in the United States. The operation is aimed at removing a tumor, as the oncological treatments to which the artist is subjected would not have had the effect hoped for by the doctors.

“I came here to do several things, including having a consultation with an oncologist who specializes in the type of cancer I have. [Vim] at the request of my doctors in Brazil so that we could have a second opinion on the treatment I will undergo after the surgery I will undergo next week”, announced the artist.

The case of Preta Gil

Preta Gil was diagnosed with bowel cancer in early 2023. Among the symptoms that made her suspect a health problem were intense constipation and flat stools, with mucus and blood.

At that time, she underwent radiation therapy and surgical treatment. The artist also had to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, an operation that involves the removal of the uterus.

After primary treatment, he entered a phase without manifestation of the disease, commonly called “remission”, according to doctors heard by Estadão. In other words, the cancer was no longer detectable by physical examinations, imaging, tomography and/or blood tests.

In August 2024, however, the artist reported that the cancer had returned, having been detected in two lymph nodes, the peritoneum – the membrane in the abdominal cavity that surrounds organs such as the stomach and intestines – and the ureter. Preta’s treatment is currently carried out at the Sírio Libanês hospital, in São Paulo.
