The division of assets valued at 1.4 billion reais was the subject of a long legal dispute after the will did not recognize Rose Miriam di Matteo, mother of the presenter’s children, as heir
The family of Gugu Freed announced on Sunday the 15th the end of the dispute over the inheritance worth 1.4 billion reals left by the presenter who died in 2019 at the age of 60, in the United States, victim of a domestic accident. In an interview with FantasticGugu’s eldest son, John Augustusnow 23 years old, he commented on the new phase that the family is experiencing after five years of legal cases against the mother Rosa Miriam by Matteo.
In his will, Gugu did not recognize Rose as a partner in a stable union, which started the division processes. The document named the presenter’s sister, Aparecida Freedas responsible for the care of his estate (assets divided among the heirs). In it, 75% of the estate was left to Rose’s three children and the remaining 25% to her five grandchildren; in addition to assigning a lifetime pension for the mother, Dona Maria do Céuof R$ 163 thousand.
“My father had the idea that the children’s generation would always support their parents, so he didn’t leave anything to my uncles and aunts but he left it to his nephews. He left it to his children so that if if something happened, we could help,” said João Augusto.
At that time, the young man opposed the position of his mother and sisters, the twins. Marina AND Sofianow twenty years old, who supported her in the search for recognition of a stable union and the division of the inheritance. “My father never wanted to get married, it was his wish. I just wanted to defend my father’s wishes. Everything could have been resolved in a family conversation.”
“The family was divided at the time. I had different opinions than my sisters, so there was a bad atmosphere,” recalls João, who chose to follow the position of his aunt and executor.
Aparecida Liberato also spoke about the case and said he went through difficult times during the inventory. When asked about Rose’s position during the dispute, Gugu’s sister preferred not to comment, simply saying that the case could have been resolved in a much shorter time given that it had been “five years of pain”.
The end of the controversy began in a conversation promoted by João Augusto with his sisters, mother and family lawyers. Months after the meeting, in August, Rose completed the process for the recognition of a stable union. “What’s the point of all this? To prove that I’m a comrade? I put an end to all of this so my children could start the divide,” Rose said. According to her, the case has left hurt feelings but there is still love for the presenter’s family and the desire for reconciliation.
With the split, Rose said he is financially well off and revealed that the amounts secured with the end of the litigation are higher than expected.
“Respecting Gugu’s will was sacred and they did very well, they will support her” commented aunt Aparecida after the case was closed. “For Gugu we need to ask for forgiveness and an apology, relations will improve over time,” he said.
In a statement, lawyers for the children and Rose expressed recognition and gratitude to Aparecida. The statement spoke of a “new moment for everyone” and reiterated its commitment to honoring the presenter’s legacy.
“It’s a great relief. Relief because my father can now rest,” commented João on the development of the case. The desires now are for unity. “My father always said: family is everything”
