Rest among the beauties of Balmoral: Queen Elizabeth II went on vacation

This year, 96-year-old Elizabeth II especially needed a vacation. She celebrated the 70th anniversary of her reign, and, despite health problems, attended a lot of ceremonial events. This afternoon, Elizabeth, dressed in a purple and yellow flowered dress, left her residence in Berkshire and set off for picturesque Scotland. Her Majesty will probably spend a few weeks there, and she will no doubt be joined by other members of the royal family.

Traditionally, the Queen stays at Craigowan Lodge, a stone cottage located a mile from the main castle of Balmoral, until it closes for tours. As a rule, in Scotland, Elizabeth rests until September-October, after which she returns to her royal duties with renewed vigor.

The Queen is known to love Scotland. In 1947, she and her late husband Prince Philip even spent part of their honeymoon at Birkhall, a hunting lodge on the estate. In the ITV documentary Our Queen at Ninety, Princess Eugenie shared that her grandmother feels truly happy at Balmoral.

This is the most beautiful place on earth,” she said. “I think Grandma is very happy there. She loves mountains very much… Walks, picnics, dogs – there are a lot of dogs, always! And a lot of people around.

It should be noted that in early July it became known that Elizabeth II transferred part of her powers to her eldest son, Prince Charles, the main contender for the throne. Now Duke of Wales will more often replace Elizabeth II at state events and on trips to countries of the United Kingdom, which she can no longer visit due to poor health. This is a big event for British society.
