Actress Blake Lively accused ‘It Ends With Us’ director and co-star Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of the film and a later attempt to “ruin” your reputation.
The complaint, obtained by The Associated Press and reported by The New York Times as being filed Dec. 20 with the California Department of Civil Rights, precedes a lawsuit. It names Baldoni, the studio behind the romantic drama “It Ends With Us” and the journalists among the defendants.
In the complaint, Lively accuses Baldoni and the studio of embarking on a “multi-layered scheme” to damage her reputation after a meeting in which she and husband Ryan Reynolds reported “repeated sexual harassment and other harassing behavior” by of Baldoni and producer of the film.
Justin Baldoni responds to the allegations
Justin Baldoni’s attorney, Brian Friedman, responded to Blake Lively’s accusations, calling them “totally baseless.”
Freedman defended the actions of The Agency Group (TAG PR), the crisis management firm hired by Baldoni, and called Lively’s claims “false and outrageous.”
“TAG PR acted like any other crisis management company hired by a client who was under threat from two extremely powerful people with unlimited resources. The standard script prepared by TAG PR proved unnecessary as the public found the actions, interviews and Lively’s marketing during the promotional tour and responded organically to what the media gathered themselves,” the lawyer told various media such as US Weekly on December 23.
According to the lawyer, the crisis agency had prepared a strategy to combat Lively’s alleged defamers if they “spread a negative story”, one of Nathan’s alleged strategies was to “inform people with a stronger version of events”, including – record conversations with media outlets who were “trusted friends,” the agency said.
The plan, according to the complaint, included a proposal to plant theories in online forums, orchestrate a smear campaign on social media and publish news stories critical of Lively.
Baldoni recruited journalists and crisis management experts in a “sophisticated, coordinated and well-funded retaliation plan” aimed at “burying” and “destroying” Lively if she publicly disclosed her concerns on set, according to the complaint.
“To protect against the risk of Ms. Lively revealing the truth about Mr. Baldoni, the BaldoniWayfarer team created, produced, promoted and promoted content designed to impeach Ms. Lively’s credibility,” the complaint states. “They used the same tactic to boost the credibility of Mr. Baldoni and suppress any negative content about him,” explains the complaint filed by the actress.
What does Blake Lively blame Justin Baldoni for?
Lively’s complaint lists 30 demands that Baldoni and others allegedly agreed to after the actress had a tense meeting with them in which she expressed concerns about a hostile work environment.
Among them, he requested that “no more videos or images of naked women” be shown to Lively and others on set, and that there be no further discussion of pornography, sexual experiences or genitalia.
The actress also mentioned that Baldoni should not ask his trainer about his weight without his consent, not to persistently ask him about his religious beliefs and not to “bring up his deceased father again.”
An intimacy coordinator also had to be on set whenever Lively shared a scene with Baldoni, and she was forbidden from entering her mobile dressing room or make-up room when she was naked.
The lawsuits also stipulated that there would be no more improvised kissing scenes or sex scenes added to the film other than those that were in the script that Lively approved when she was cast.
“I hope my legal action will help expose these awful tactics of retaliation to harm people who speak out about misconduct and help protect others who may be targeted,” Lively said in a statement to The New York Times.
“It Ends With Us,” a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling 2016 novel, opened in August, surpassing box office expectations with a $50 million debut. But the film’s release was overshadowed by speculation about an alleged rift between the lead pair.
