In an exclusive interview with Revista CARAS, Xuxa Meneghel reflects on what a children’s program she presented today, on open television, would be like




Xuxa Meneghel (61) is considered one of the greatest presenters in the history of Brazilian television, being a pop culture phenomenon. She became famous for presenting the Xou from Xuxa on TV Globo, in the 80s and 90s, and earned a legion of fans who still admire her today. These “once short people”, who have become “tall people” – as the communicator herself affectionately says – dream of the return of the children’s programs led by her. Many imagine their children in front of the TV admiring the blonde as they did in the past. In this regard, the mother of Sasha Meneghel (26) speaks, in an exclusive interview with CARAS magazine.

When asked if there was the possibility of making a children’s program today, on an open TV, what would it be like, Xuxa reflects: “I have no idea, because I don’t know what today’s children like to consume, watch and listen to. In fact, I don’t think anyone knows. Children want cell phones in their hands… I can dare say. I imagine what mothers could show to their children: something musical, cheerful, fun, educational…”.

FIRST XUXA ON TV

Xuxa was a successful model when she debuted on television in 1983, after being invited by the director Maurice Sherman (1931-2019) to present the Children’s clubon the extinct Rede Manchete. The program aired from 5pm to 7pm and featured games such as ball popping, tug of war, plate games, rope skipping and tricks.

The rookie presenter was 20 years old at the time. The format of the program was similar to Xou da Xuxa and alternated the screening of cartoons with games and musical performances. In addition to Xuxa, names like Angélica, Mylla Christie, Patricia Kiss (Pat Kiss at the time) e Debby Lagranha.

From 1986 to 1992, the blonde presented Xou da Xuxa on TV Globo. The program was a ratings success and became a franchise, exported to other countries. Xuxa also commanded other attractions such as: The planet Xuxaaimed at teenagers, from 1997 to 2002; AND XuxaTVwhich debuted in 2005 and ended in 2014.

The presenter was one of the main figures of Brazilian popular culture of the 80s and 90s. Her name has become a brand, with successful sales of dolls, toys, comics and records.

New things are coming! Xuxa Meneghel will resume the XSPB (Xuxa for shorties only) this year. The sequence of children’s albums, which was a real craze in the 2000s, will contain new songs and special effects. The news is confirmed in the exclusive interview with CARAS magazine.

The host will delight her eager fans by mixing new texts with learning, imagination and fun. He also aims to win his third statuette of the Latin Grammy – The star won the international award in the Best Children’s Album category in 2002 and 2003.

“In March I will launch XSPB 14 – Cores. Som Livre, once again, bets on me. There are 13 new songs aimed at my very short audience. In my projects for children, children learn through play, with the playful side, with fantasy and this will be no different, perhaps it will be the edition with the most effects”says the star.

For XSPB 14, Xuxa will find a different scenario in the way audiences consume audiovisual. With the advancement of technology, the blonde will begin to invest in digital, making her songs available on audio and video platforms. “The hardest part is getting used to the fact that we no longer have DVDs or CDs… Now we have to adapt to the media and platforms. It’s quite a challenge. It doesn’t make sense for me to think of an order that goes from first to last. ‘last song, because the little girl will listen in the order she wants and without having a physical product in her hand’he concludes.
