Silvio Santos’ daughters and widow filed a lawsuit against the state of Sao Paulo over the fortune found in international accounts.
Silvio Santos’ billion-dollar fortune became the target of a lawsuit by the presenter’s heirs. According to information from the TV Pop website, the daughters and the widow have opened a lawsuit against the state of Sao Paulo to avoid paying a millionaire’s tax, which is mandatory for those who receive the inheritance.
According to the publication, Silvio had R$429,947,843.54 in bank accounts abroad when he died in August last year. The heirs would have to pay R$ 17,197,913.74 in tax on transmission due to death and on the donation of assets or rights (ITCMD). However, they believe that the accusation is undue, since the money is located in the United States and the Bahamas, one of the most famous tax havens, so Brazilian legislation should not be taken into account.
Silvio left just over R$1 million in two American banks. All the rest of the money was deposited in a banking institution located on an island in the Bahamas. The fortune is justified as a “centralized interest in an entity located in the Bahamas, Daparris Corp Ltd.” The heiresses will also have a debt of 10 million reals, the result of a loan taken out by the presenter.
