The new trend in the public domain: revisiting horror
The passage of Popeye into the public domain has opened the door to several film projects that reinvent the character, and Popeye’s Revenge it’s just the first. This fashion of horrible inversion of childhood characters seems to be booming, even with Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare expected this year.
However, some critics are already questioning the saturation of the concept. It remains to be seen whether Popeye’s Revenge will be able to maintain public interest or if the trend begins to lose momentum.
