The death of the influencer Ricardo Godoi46 years old, from Itapema (SC), after receiving general anesthesia to get a tattoo, he is surrounded by controversy and investigations. The case occurred on Monday (20th) at the Dia Revitalite Hospital. According to the death certificate, signed by the medical director Clício J. Dezorzi, the main causes are mentioned: “anesthetic induction”, “respiratory arrest” and “cardiac arrest”. Additionally, the document lists the use of anabolic steroids as a “significant condition” that contributed to the death.

The businessman’s family, however, denied this allegation, stating Godoi he had stopped using anabolic steroids five months ago and previous tests had ensured his suitability for the procedure. According to the delegate Aden Clauswho is conducting the investigation as a possible manslaughter, the family’s version will be analyzed together with other elements of the case. “The certificate mentions anabolic steroids, but the family stated that he was capable of performing the surgery and no longer used these substances,” declared Claus.

Godoifather of four and owner of a luxury car company, he suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest right at the beginning of the sedation process, before he had even started getting the tattoo. The tattoo studio, tasked with shutting down the businessman, said it had hired a private hospital with all the necessary facility, as well as an experienced anesthetist. “The tests were requested and approved in advance. Ricardo signed the consent form. Despite all measures, death occurred right at the beginning of the intubation,” the study explained in a statement.

The Regional Medical Council of Santa Catarina (CRM-SC) reported that there is no formal ban on the use of general anesthesia in tattoo procedures. However, the body stressed that it is up to professionals to assess the risk-benefit ratio on a case-by-case basis, underlining the need for rigorous structures and protocols to ensure patient safety.

Still without an official position from the hospital, the Civil Police is investigating possible defects in the anesthetic procedure and in the preventive risk analysis. The exhumation of the body, scheduled for this Wednesday (22nd), could provide more details on the causes of death, especially if the use of anabolic steroids actually had significant effects.

The case of Ricardo Godoi brought to light the debate on the limits of medicine in aesthetic procedures and reinforced the importance of clear rules for practices involving general anesthesia. “We are committed to understanding what happened and holding accountable, if necessary, those who were negligent,” completed the delegate. The Civil Police continues to investigate.
