“As survivors for amputation of female genitals, I am talking about millions of girls whose voices were silent before they had the opportunity to live freely,” Jama told the stage with the broken voice.

What is the amputation of the female genitals?

The young woman reported that she underwent practice known as Patientone of the most serious forms of MGF, by three women with no medical training, under the justification of a Cultural tradition.

Zainab strongly describes the process: “I was cut off from the clit, then internal and external lips, I remember I shouted at pain because anesthesia was not used.

After the intervention, it was locked for days with tied legswithout access to medical care.

Jama’s testimony was not only an act of personal courage, but also a public complaint against a practice that, according to the World Health Organization, affects more than 90% of girls in Somalia.

Zainab Jama wishes to eliminate practice

Currently, Zainab is leading the Women’s Initiative Foundation, a project pursuing Eliminate MGF and provide support to other survivors.

The Miss Mundo organization, with the slogan “Beauty with Puice”, has argued its cause, underlining the importance of visible these realities to world platforms.
