Preta Gil’s funeral, held on Friday (25), at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, was marked by a public ceremony full of exciting honors. Friends, fans and family members participated in the weight to give the last farewell to the artist, who died due to intestinal cancer. But a detail attracted everyone’s attention: most of the present was dressed in white.
White as a symbol of faith, rebirth and peace
While black is traditionally associated with mourning in the West, the choice of white has had a much deeper meaning in the context of black farewell. This is because the color was chosen in homage to the singer’s family religion, the African matrix Candomblé.
In Candomblé, White symbolizes purity, peace and spirituality. In addition, it represents Orixás as Oxalá and Iemanjá, linked to creation and Renaissance. Therefore, white goes beyond aesthetics: it is a way to resign death as a rite of passage and not as a dark side. Therefore, dressing in this way was a gesture full of faith and respect for the beliefs of black and their families.
It is interesting to note that among those present there were names such as Gilberto Gil, Flora Gil, Francisco Gil, Carolina Dieckmann, Sabrina Sato, Tiaguinho, Leo Santana, Caio Blat, among others, all united in a moment of profound spiritual and cultural connection.
Gominho denies voices and talks about removal
During the farewell coverage, another theme has gained space: the voices involving the influencer Gominho and Carolina Dieckmann. In the Mais Você program, he clarified: “I am saying it because people started thinking a lot of very boring. That I had fought with the family, which I had fought with Carol … and it was not so.”
Gominho revealed that his decision to leave the house where he lived with black was personal: “I needed to leave. Therefore, he denied any quarrel, strengthening respect and pain he still feels after three years of intense coexistence with the artist.
With this, the funeral of Preta Gil became a manifestation of love, spirituality and unity a faithful reflection of the artist who thus inspired by his art, strength and faith.
