Leonardo Jardim reveals and shakes Cruzeiro fans

The relationship between Leonardo Jardim and Cruzeiro obtained definitive outlines after the defeat in Santos Domenica (10 August) in Mineirão. Despite the 2-1 setback in the Brazilian championship, the coach took advantage of the press conference to strengthen his commitment for the club and clarify the previous statements that had caused discomfort.

Previously, the coach had expressed dissatisfaction with the logistics of Brazilian football, mentioning the wear caused by long journeys, as in the passage to Maceió, where the team had to face the CRB. The repercussion of these speeches led Garden to position himself more emphaticly on his link with the Minas Gerais Club.

“Now in Brazil, I am Cruzeiro and I will not train any other club,” said the coach, highlighting his complete delivery to the project led by Saf led by Pedro Lourenço. According to him, his relationship with the leader goes beyond the signed contract and entails trust and affinity at work.

In justifying his previous criticisms, Jardim compared the Brazilian reality with his passages through other centers. “Brazil is not just a country. It is a continent. In Qatar, it would not even take the plane. In Portugal, an aerial journey a year. Here, the scenario is completely different,” he said.

Despite the intense calendar, the coach stressed that working in Brazil was a personal desire. “I came to enjoy this passionate Brazilian football. I don’t want to train until I was 80 years old. I am almost 30 years old and my dedication is total,” he said, pushing the idea of sharing the focus with other priorities.

The match against Santos, however, had no consequences only on the pitch. Hours after the end of the game, a bus that brought the Cruzeiro fans back to São João Del-Rei suffered a fire on the Br-040 in Nova Lima. The fire started on the back of the vehicle, but fortunately no one was injured.

The 48 passengers were brought to a region service station and managed to travel for another transport. The fire also reached the wires of power, causing occasional interruptions in road lighting. However, the track towards Rio de Janeiro had only a partial interdiction, without further impact on traffic.

Still in the same stretch of the highway, already on the morning of Monday (11 August), an inverted truck at 604 km in Congonhas, completely broke the track in the same direction. The accident, however, had no direct link with what happened with Cruzeiro fans.
