The actresses of Cecilia and Laí in Vale Tudo’s remake expressed dissatisfaction with the surface treatment given to the LGBT characters.
Maeve Jinkings and Lorena Lima, interpreters of Cecilia and Lais in Vale Tudo’s remake on TV Globo, showed dissatisfaction with the development of their characters in the novel. The actresses believe that the LGBT couple received surface treatment and time on the limited screen, especially in the final phase of the production.
The demonstration occurred on Wednesday (17), after the information released by the column another channel, Folha de S.Paulo, and confirmed by the sources of the backstage. According to reports, the actresses did not hide from frustrated colleagues for the direction given to their characters in the plot.
The discontent of the actresses is linked to the expectation of greater visibility for the lesbian couple in the remake compared to the original version. The current production, transmitted in 2025, brought a significant update keeping Cecilia alive, unlike what happened in the 1988 version, when the character died in an accident.
In the first version of the soap opera, broadcast 37 years ago, the relationship between the characters was faced discreetly due to the restrictions of the time, which prevented the visualization of various scenes of the couple.
For next week, the characters will only have an apparition expected in the narration of Raquel, the role of Taís Araujo, who also publicly expressed his disappointment for the developments of his character. In addition, Laís and Cecilia will not appear among the suspicions of the attack that the character of Alexandre Nero, Marco Aurélio, will suffer.
Luís Lobianco, who plays Freitas in the soap opera, also expressed his disappointment in an interview with the newspaper or globe. “I had the expectation that Lais and Cecilia would have had a more developed story. They are the LGBT characters of the plot. In the first version, one of them dies. I really imagined that they would have more in the plot, but this did not happen,” said the actor.
The current version of Vale Tudo, rewritten by Manuela Dias, will be replaced in October by the Soap Opera Três Graças, by Aguinaldo Silva. Production is considered one of the great successes of the Brazilian television drama.
