Renata Vanzetto’s name dominated social media this Tuesday, 14, hours after a controversial statement during the Upfront Globo 2025 event. The chef, who is part of the team of TV Globo’s “Chef de Alto Aprendiz” program, mocked the success of “MasterChef Brasil” by comparing the audience of the attractions and saying: “One of our episodes had more ratings than all the seasons of MasterChef put together Together”.
The phrase went viral and was interpreted by many internet users as a mockery, generating criticism and a flood of comments on Renata’s networks.
“For those who are on Globo, remembering a program that airs on Band is because they felt it strongly!”, said an internet user.
“Vovó Glorinha’s pressure cooker is better known than the whole program, who were the participants? Who won? Who left first? Nobody knows,” joked another.
“The best cooking show on Brazilian TV is Masterchef. It can’t even be compared to yours, it can beat the audience and give you popcorn. Nobody even remembers the participants. On the YouTube channel, Masterchef has billions of views, it gets better. No cooking show stays on Globo’s schedule for long,” said another person on Renata’s profile.
But who is Renata Vanzetto after all?
Born in Ilhabela, on the north coast of São Paulo, Renata is 36 years old and grew up surrounded by pots, spices and family stories. He started cooking as a teenager and, at 16, decided he wanted to pursue a career in gastronomy. Determined, she studied abroad and worked in renowned European kitchens before returning to Brazil to open her first restaurant at age 21.
Among the chefs’ restaurants are Motel (formerly Ema), Me Gusta, Mé Taberna, Muquifo, Matilda, Mi.ado and Mamma Vanzetto.
On social media she has more than 345 thousand followers, where she shares behind the scenes, recipes and sincere reflections on life and motherhood. She is the mother of Ziggy, Max and Suri and is married to Cassiano Bonjardim, an American architect and businessman who left the United States for São Paulo.
This year he made his debut on Globo as a judge on “Chef de Alto Aprendiz”, together with Alex Atala and Jefferson Rueda, a program hosted by Ana Maria Braga, focused on a dispute between professional chefs.
