Author of the book ‘I wanted to die, but in heaven there are no tteokbokki’, Baek Se-hee dies prematurely and leaves her family devastated; check it out!
The writer Baek Se-heeknown throughout the world for the best-seller I wanted to die, but there are no tteokbokki in heavendied at the age of 35. The news was confirmed this Thursday (16) by the Korea Organ Donation Agency, which also revealed that the author was a donor and helped save five lives by donating her organs.
The cause of death was not revealed
Baekwho moved readers by honestly exposing his battles with depression, gained prominence when he published a work in 2018 that mixes personal memories and therapeutic reflections. The book collects real dialogues with her psychiatrist, in which she expressed the contrast between the desire to disappear and the small pleasures of life, such as eating tteokbokkia traditional South Korean dish and one of his favorites.
The impact of the work was immediate in the author’s country of origin and, over time, it spread throughout the world: it appeared in the bestseller lists of Sunday timesin the United Kingdom, and also received prominence in New York Timeswho recommended reading it to his international audience.
“Even when I changed all the aspects of my life I wanted to change – weight, education, partners and friends – I was still depressed.”he wrote. “I didn’t always feel this way, but I drifted in and out of a melancholy that was as inevitable as bad weather.”
The following year, Baek published the success story, delving into the stories of his experience with dysthymia, a chronic form of mild depression, in the book I wanted to die, but there are no tteokbokki in heaven (yet). Born in 1990, she was the second of three sisters. She studied creative writing in college and worked as a social media director at a publishing house before turning to treating depression, an experience that ultimately led to her most famous writing.
In a note released by the organ donation agency, the author’s younger sister, Baek Da-heepaid a moving tribute to the memory of Baek Se-hee: “I know his kind heart, that he loved so much and didn’t hate anyone, so I hope he rests in peace in heaven now. I love you so much”he said, adding: “He wrote, he shared his heart with others through his writing, and he hoped to cultivate dreams of hope.”
