Actress Anne Heche (“Playing with Pleasure”) was trapped for about 45 minutes inside her burning car during the August 5 incident in which the vehicle she was driving crashed into a house and took fire in the Mar. View of Los Angeles.
The information was learned from news broadcaster NBC4, which at the time had access to audio recordings made by the Los Angeles fire department.
According to the records, the firefighters were unable to reach Heche’s car for at least 20 minutes due to the fire and it took more than 20 minutes to get the vehicle out of the burning house. Only later was the actress taken by ambulance.
“Given the fire and smoke conditions, the vehicle could not be clearly seen or even accessed,” said Los Angeles Fire Chief Richard Fields.
Thanks to the recordings, the broadcaster was able to build a history of the rescue, which began at 11:01 pm, when the firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident and, a few moments later, they confirmed that there was “a person trapped inside the vehicle “. Seven minutes later, at 11:07 pm, firefighters confirmed that there were no other victims inside the house.
Another 15 minutes passed when one of the commanders asked for confirmation of the case. “Let me clarify this, then – do you have a patient in the car?” he asked at 11:22 pm. Three minutes later, Heche’s body was found in the vehicle. “We have identified a patient, currently unreachable and pressed to the floor!” Said the rescuer.
Around 11:49 pm, Heche was pulled out of the rubble. “We have a patient in the car, undergoing evaluation, who is about to be loaded onto a stretcher for transportation,” a firefighter said on the tape.
Heche was transported to Ronald Reagan Medical Center and then transferred to West Hills Hospital’s Grossman Burn Center for specialist care.
She died a week later from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, according to the Los Angeles County coroner.
