French football legend and Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has been named the best player in the world in 2022. The striker won the Ballon d’Or, a prize awarded by France Football magazine. The awards ceremony took place in Paris, where the 34-year-old wore a navy blue Fendi MTM tuxedo and a flat Fendi logo bow tie.

Last season, Benzema won the Spanish Championship and the Champions League with Real Madrid (he has been playing for the club since 2009), becoming the top scorer in both competitions with 27 and 15 goals respectively. Also on his account is the Spanish Super Cup, won in January.
The sensation – in a bad way – was that for the first time since 2006, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo was in the top three finalists. By the way, the first received the “Golden Ball” prize seven times, the second – five. During this time, the prize only once went to Croatian Luka Modric – it was 2018. Sadio Mane (Bayern Munich) is now second in voting for the Ballon d’Or, while Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) is third.
