The Brazilian Academy of Film and Audiovisual Arts has awarded the title of Distinguished Members to actress Fernanda Montenegro, director Walter Lima Jr. and director Ruy Guerra.

“I am very proud to belong to this Academy and very happy to be with these two personalities. It is the history of our cinema in the last century. What unites us deeply is the memory we have of what we have lived. It is an honor to be. called for this position. Thank you very much, “Fernanda Montenegro said in a press release.

“Flattered and happy. Congratulations to my noble companions from the Academy,” said the expert Ruy Guerra more sparingly.

“Very honored by the Academy’s invitation and happy to be reunited with my peers,” summed up Walter Lima Jr.

Fernanda Montenegro is the only Brazilian actress already nominated for an Oscar (for “Central do Brasil” in 1999), Ruy Guerra has two silver bears at the Berlin Film Festival, for “Os Fuzis” (1964) and “A Queda” (1978) and Walter Lima Jr. was awarded at the Venice Film Festival for “L’ostrica e il vento” (1997).

Having joined the members, the three begin to vote for the election of the best of the year at the Brazilian Grand Prix of Cinema, a sort of national Oscar, which always takes place with great delay compared to the international awards, as holds in the third quarter.

This year the winner of the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix was the film “Marighella”.
