This because homosexuality it is considered a criminal practice, punishable by imprisonment and even the death penalty in Qatar. Human rights violations in the country have been the main reasons for artists like Shakira and Dua Lipa refuse to perform at the event.
“Since receiving the invitation, I’ve been thinking about how I could contribute to causes LGBT+ beyond my existence, resistance and all that I stand for. For me, it wouldn’t make sense not to give something back to my community, given that Brazil is the country that kills the most LGBT+ people,” the singer explained on Twitter.
Since receiving the invitation, I’ve been thinking about how I can contribute to LGBTQIA+ causes beyond my existence, my resistance and all that I represent. For me it wouldn’t make sense not to give something back to my community, given that Brazil is the country that kills the most LGBTQIA+ people here

Then, the artist explained that he will choose 5 institutions that work on behalf of the community to support throughout 2023. However, some fans and followers responded:
“Couldn’t you support these institutions without going to perform?” one follower asked. “A group of conscientious artists who refuse to go and you will help institutions in the form of protest against Qatar? You are too disappointing,” posted another.
Lud, Shakira and Dua Lipa refused to perform there, due to the criminalization of our existence there. Why did you decide to go? Couldn’t you support these institutions without performing there?

You could do the deed and >not go< to perform in a country that criminalizes our existence, right? You made a big mistake on this one, Lud

Everyone knows the direction they take for their life and professional career. But I don’t think it’s good to perform in Qatar, especially when you’re an openly LGBTQIAP+ artist, it seems very incoherent to me. But go there and good luck.
