The Mummy franchise star Brendan Fraser spoke about how hard it was for the news of his son’s diagnosis. In 2002, the Hollywood actor had his first child, Griffin Arthur, who suffers from an autism spectrum disorder. Fraser shared his thoughts in the new issue of the author’s show of the American comedian Howard Stern. His words are quoted by Page Six.

When I learned the diagnosis of my child at 22 or 24 months, I was, to put it mildly, dejected. The first reaction I had was, “I want to know how to fix this. What medicine is needed? What does that even mean?”

The 54-year-old actor also admitted that the diagnosis took him by surprise. He felt as if he had been “hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat.” Frazier spoke about how much he blamed himself, his genetics and lifestyle. Brendan said he wanted to do everything in his power to find a cure.

Griffin, now 20, was born to Frazier by ex-wife Afton Smith. The couple have two more sons: 16-year-old Leland and 18-year-old Holden. The lovers met in 1993 at one of the parties hosted by Winona Ryder, but got married only five years later and only later thought about expanding the family. In 2007, Frazier and Smith announced their divorce.

I paid more attention to my professional life than my personal one. But with Griffin, all bets are off. Who cares what problems we have with each other? It doesn’t matter at all. We do our best to support the needs of this boy. That’s what’s most important to me,” Frazier added.

In November 2022, Brendan explained how Griffin helped him connect with his character in Darren Aranofsky’s new film The Whale. The film is about a middle-aged man who is trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter. Separated from his family, out of guilt, Charlie began to overeat, reaching a weight of 600 pounds – about 272 kilograms. For Fraser, in his own words, it was a completely new experience. The film had its world premiere on December 9 – watch the trailer here.

He doesn’t know what cynicism is. You cannot insult him. He cannot insult you. He is the happiest person in my life, as in the lives of many others. This is a manifestation of pure love.
