“Alone among the fogs.” Karen White

A book in which the destinies of three generations of women are wonderfully intertwined: grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters. After an unsuccessful marriage, Vivienne Walker returns to her hometown on the banks of the Mississippi, where she has not been for ten years. Going through childhood events, she recalls the story of her grandmother, the watchmaker’s wife, who mysteriously disappeared in 1929 during a major flood.

To distract from personal drama and dispel boredom, Vivien decides to find out what happened many years ago. This investigation will result in a gripping story – with family skeletons, childhood grievances, unexpected twists and, of course, a wonderful love story.

“How to date guys if you hate them.” Blythe Roberson

An ironic and philosophical book about how to build relationships in an era of technology, careerism and the cult of individualism. And all this against the backdrop of strong gender stereotypes that dictate to us what love should look like.

The author of the book, Blythe Roberson, relentlessly navigates all stages of modern relationships, from flirting (live and virtual) to life after a breakup. In the process, the girl makes up funny checklists: a scale for evaluating men, broken tips from books about love, and even ways to distract from thoughts about a guy.

Despite the rather harsh title of the book, it was written without disregard for humanity and excessive moralizing. Blythe Roberson is a journalist and comedian, and people in these professions are used to speaking honestly, and most importantly, not being afraid to talk about their failures and fears.

“Uwe’s second life”. Fredrik Backman

The book by the Swedish writer and former truck driver Fredrik Backman broke sales records in the Scandinavian countries, and then became a bestseller in Europe and the United States. This is an incredibly touching story about how to lose hope and find it again.

The protagonist is the gloomy and grouchy Uwe, a man of strict rules and an adherent of daily rituals. Having lost his wife, he finally withdraws into himself. However, everything changes when an extravagant family with small children settles in a neighboring house. Neighbors burst into his life like a whirlwind and turn it upside down. It suddenly turns out that behind the veil of strictness Uwe hides a kind and sympathetic heart, full of pain and loneliness.

“The Second Life of Uwe” is written in an easy and exciting way, so it is interesting not only to read, but also to listen to. The audio version of the book, as well as the electronic format, is available on Bookmate with a Yandex Plus subscription.

“Loneliness on the Net” Janusz Wisniewski

One of the most famous contemporary love stories. In the center of the plot is the story of a married girl from Poland and a guy from Germany, who is having a hard time parting. A stormy online correspondence begins between them, in which the characters will experience the whole range of emotions: joy, passion, feelings, anger and disappointment. But the main test will be the meeting of heroes in reality.

Janusz Wisniewski wrote the novel in 2001 and actually anticipated the problem of human relations in the age of the Internet. What was supposed to bring people together backfired: hundreds of online friends did not become a salvation from loneliness, and virtual communication did not help to get to know each other better.

“Pasternak – Tsvetaeva – Rilke”. Ekaterina Zotova

Another example of an epistolary novel, with the only difference that the events take place almost a hundred years before “Loneliness in the Net”, the letters are paper, and the story is real. In 1922, a love correspondence began between two great poets – Marina Tsvetaeva and Boris Pasternak. The piquancy of this story is added by the fact that both are in family relationships.

Correspondence between Pasternak and Tsvetaeva will last for fourteen years. During this time, they will never see each other, moreover, at some point the poet Rainer Maria Rilke will join the dialogue. So a passionate pen pal romance will briefly turn into a love triangle.

“Pasternak – Tsvetaeva – Rilke” are excerpts from letters with comments by the author of the book, Ekaterina Zotova, which help the reader understand the historical context. Correspondence will stop in 1936, when Pasternak and Tsvetaeva finally meet in Paris. As opposed to letters full of love, this meeting will bring them rather disappointment. After a while, Tsvetaeva will leave for Russia, where the life of the poetess will tragically end.

“Hurry to love.” Nicholas Sparks

The main characters of the novel are the star of the Landon school and the reserved girl Jamie. It seems that the daughter of a priest and a guy with a dubious reputation can not have anything in common. However, circumstances push them together, and Landon falls head over heels in love.

Relationship with Jamie completely changes the main school rebel. He leaves a bad company, begins to play in the theater and puts up with his father, with whom he had not communicated for many years. But everything falls apart when Landon finds out that his girlfriend has leukemia.

Each book by Nicholas Sparks is a story about sincere and all-encompassing love that knows no barriers. But sometimes the obstacle becomes something that a person is not able to change. The novel “Hurry to Love” helps to think about the value of time and that even in the most difficult moments you can be happy.
