Music trendsetter Pharrell Williams, 49, has been appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division. — it became official the night before. In this post, Farrell will replace designer Virgil Abloh, who passed away in January 2021. The first collection, created under the direction of Williams, will be released in June at Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
I am delighted to welcome Farrell back home from our 2004 and 2008 collaborations with Louis Vuitton as Menswear Creative Director. His creative vision that transcends fashion is sure to lead to a new and exciting chapter, Louis Vuitton President and Chairman Pietro Beccari said in a statement.
The brand justifies the choice of a new creative director as follows:
Pharrell Williams — a visionary whose creative universe spans from music to art to fashion, who has established himself as a global cultural icon over the past 20 years.
Recall that Virgil Abloh died after a long battle with angiosarcoma of the heart, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, at the age of 41. Abloh’s creative vision was supported by many world celebrities, for example, Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna, Frank Ocean and others.
