Is it a bodice or an island? 5 “geographical” dresses that almost put stars to shame

Even 30 years ago, nude dresses automatically contained a wow effect. Cher, Tina Turner, Kate Moss – that’s who they’ve been talking about for weeks, months, years. Now we know in advance that there will be another nude dress on any big red carpet – the question is who will wear it. And will he be able to wear it as dignified as the divas of a bygone era.

We’ll discuss the details right away: We love, adore Lopez, Paltrow and the rest of the celebs in our pick, but we also recognize that they, like all living beings, are no strangers to fashion gaffes. And even when the shiny Western looks fondly at J. Lo’s black gown and feels it’s “luxurious” and “leaves no room for imagination” – well, it is. But at the same time, this is not a new idea – to use an outfit with “islands”. Moreover, it is extremely dangerous, because such outfits are ready to instantly betray their mistresses.

On the models on the catwalk, they even look a little conservative – so, a strip of transparent fabric on the hips, nothing more. But on curvy girls…

Jennifer Lopez

Let’s start with our J. Lo, who inspired us with nostalgia for “geographical” dresses. During the premiere of the Netflix movie Halftime about herself, the singer appeared in a Tom Ford outfit. Tom regularly supplies his star girlfriend with couture novelties, and more often than not this union is incomparable. But the sheer fabric, clearly not designed for Lopez’s figure, was on point this time. Watch out for the skirt and the pleats, with which it is scary to step – what if they burst? And a naked dress will no longer have any metaphorical meaning.

Rita Ora

In 2015, Rita Ora decided to eliminate her Oscar rivals and chose a Donna Karan Atelier dress with chiffon inserts. Although the word “inserts” may be superfluous here – there was much more sheer fabric than dense “islands”. From the front, Rita looked more than stern, but as soon as she turned around, the designer’s idea was revealed… In all its glory. At right angles and during the movement of Ora, we saw even more than necessary.

Vanessa Hudgens

And here is the novelty among the “geographical” dresses, which Vanessa Hudgens showed the world on MTV. To be fair, we joke about the phenomenon: after the release of the hot pink Valentino collection, celebrities rushed to buy fuchsia dresses, raincoats and pants, with such zeal that hot pink began to ripple in their eyes. But Vanessa still couldn’t resist and tried on a hot novelty, but we don’t know how her bust fit in the island bodice. They seemed safe on the models, but the slender Hudgens was clearly willing to take the risk. Throughout the ceremony, we kept our fingers crossed – don’t let anything go!

Jamie Alexander

In 2013, this Jamie Alexander dress was named “Hollywood’s Most Provocative”. It “works” similarly to Rita Ora’s outfit – that is, it shines and shifts when walking, exposing what the “islands” of dense fabric have tried to hide. As the actress told reporters how she achieved a luxurious figure on her own, and she’s not going to the room at all, photographers clicked the shutters on their cameras. And yet they filmed something that the star did not count on – executives still walk the Internet with black rectangles in the form of censorship.

Gwyneth Paltrow

There are at least 5 nude dresses in the Gwyneth collection, which one will immediately recall. Obviously, she loves the wow effect, but the actress called this exit from Antonio Berardi a failure. “I couldn’t change into underwear,” she complained on a post-red carpet TV show. On the other hand, journalists and fans still remember this premiere of “Iron Man” – and these are the same “islands” that again showed more than expected, but went down in fashion history “naked”.

Would you dare to wear such “geographical” dresses?

Why not?

Never!
