Fifty shades of gray

Gray is inherently simple, yet infinitely complex. Iconic models

This wide range of gray has been the focus of New Balance’s design since the 1980s. Although gray has long been used among New Balance sneakers, it became unique in the 1980s with iconic models such as the 990 and 574. When the 990 was first launched in 1982, its price of $ 100 and a premium suede upper were they spared it immediately, making it a symbol of status and fixing it gray as the color of royal sneakers. Six years later, in 1988, the 574 brought this shade to the general public. Thanks to its affordable price and the status of the first real “lifestyle” New Balance sneaker, the 574 model became the basis of a wardrobe without a complicated and laborious campaign and became the most iconic silhouette of the brand.

Influence and awareness

There is no doubt about the influence and effect of the legendary shade of New Balance and the shoes that made it an icon. Every year, the brand prepares a special edition of shoes to celebrate the color that has become synonymous with it. For 2022, the brand will focus on three models that also meet the Green Leaf Standard. The shoes are complemented by a special collection of clothes that may or may not share the same look.
