Fundapec, the Dominican educational credit foundation, held a business breakfast titled "Diagnosis on the Business Need for Training Funds," bringing together representatives from major companies and institutions across the Dominican Republic.
The event was designed to learn firsthand about the needs, challenges and opportunities that organizations currently face in training, skills development and talent management, with the aim of identifying mechanisms to strengthen the capabilities of companies and their employees.
Welcome remarks were given by Yolanda Valdez, president of Fundapec's Board of Directors, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for listening and joint work between the education and business sectors.
Valdez said the best solutions emerge when those who experience the challenges of talent development firsthand are given a voice. She added that the meeting allowed Fundapec to get closer to companies' real needs and to keep building initiatives that contribute to the growth of people, organizations and the country.
Fundapec's decades of work in education
During the session, Harry Heinsen, Fundapec's Director of Fund Administration, presented the institution's history and the impact it has achieved over more than five decades of service. He also outlined the various initiatives the foundation runs to facilitate access to educational and training opportunities for Dominicans.
Fundapec is a longstanding Dominican organization focused on educational credit and workforce training, and has supported students and professionals in the country for close to six decades.
A participatory workshop
The gathering also included a participatory workshop facilitated by consultant Enilka Hernández Reyes. Attendees used the session to share experiences, perspectives and recommendations related to the current challenges of training and talent development within their organizations.
Representatives from sectors including industry, manufacturing, commerce, technology, energy, infrastructure, health, education and services took part actively in the discussions. Fundapec said the input gathered will serve as a basis for analyzing and formulating future initiatives aimed at strengthening the link between education, employability and organizational development.
