Glenn Close Defends Kim Kardashian Against Online Critics

Actress Glenn Close defended Kim Kardashian against online criticism on Instagram during filming for the second season of legal drama All's Fair.

Replying to a comment on her Aug. 23 Instagram post expressing regret that Close had to "deal with" Kardashian, the 79-year-old Fatal Attraction star praised the Skims founder. Close wrote that whatever someone's opinion of Kardashian might be, she wanted them to know that Kardashian is a KIND, funny, steady, smart powerhouse of a woman and mother, adding, "She is my friend."

The Instagram post featured Kardashian alongside her boyfriend, Sir Lewis Hamilton, on the series set. Close mused in her caption that she LOVED meeting Sir Lewis, describing him as a sweet, classy gentleman and thanking Kardashian for bringing him by the All's Fair location.

Close and the 45-year-old reality star appear together in the Ryan Murphy series alongside Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor and Naomi Watts, with Kardashian playing lawyer Allura Grant.

The exchange was not the first time Close has stood up for her costar. Last year, Close pushed back on public reaction to Kardashian joining the series, maintaining, "She’s lovely," and, "And very smart. Very, very conscientious with her kids. When we were filming, she was going through working towards her law degree, and near the end, she would have flashcards."

Speaking to E! News last May, Close said she was "so impressed" with Kardashian's performance as Allura Grant, detailing, "First of all, she's a very sweet woman, she does her homework, she has great people around her, which says a lot," and adding, "She's not a prima donna."

One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor, who played Milan in the series, also praised Kardashian during an interview with E! News alongside Close. Taylor said she had some "really great" scenes opposite Kardashian and praised her line memory. "Her ability to remember her lines, she's so good with that," Taylor shared, "and she'll keep reading it over and over and over again. It's dope to see."

Famous Hollywood friendships formed on movie and television sets

Close and Kardashian are among many Hollywood pairs who have developed close bonds while working in entertainment. Sister-in-law duo Cameron Diaz and Nicole Richie bonded over Diaz's film career, with Richie recounting on the Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast in May 2024 how she convinced Diaz to re-enact a scene from My Best Friend's Wedding. Richie recalled asking Diaz to run behind a luggage cart toward an airport while driving in Chicago: "We were in Chicago and I said to her, 'Cameron, I need you to give it to me. I need you to get behind the luggage cart and run towards me, towards the airport.'" Richie added that after asking Diaz to say specific lines as they drove past things, "she really just let me have it. It was very generous of her."

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and comedian Amy Schumer built a friendship after Lawrence watched Schumer's 2015 film Trainwreck. "I emailed her after I saw Trainwreck and said, 'I don't know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I'm in love with you,'" Lawrence recalled to The New York Times, adding, "We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting." The bond was solidified when Schumer invited Lawrence to join her and high school friends in the Hamptons. Schumer later told The Daily Show that Lawrence was "the coolest chick you'll ever meet," describing her as "the best hang, she was like one of the gang."

Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini experienced instant chemistry when they met at the 2004 premiere of Man on Fire. "It was one of those instant chemistry things where you just feel like, 'I love this person. I love being around this person. This person makes me laugh,'" Lopez told Entertainment Tonight of her Brooklyn-bred bestie. Remini later celebrated Lopez's performance at President Joe Biden's inauguration, telling E! News, "I wrote her and said, 'You know, you're a girl from the Bronx. 'Like, what you did today was really inspiring, and it was just beautiful to watch,'" adding, "Just beautiful."

Longtime co-stars and television ensemble bonds

Friends stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow have maintained a close connection since sharing salads on the Warner Brothers studio lot. A source told E! News that the trio "grew up together and went through this formidable life experience that was Friends." The source noted that the group regularly meets for Sunday dinners at Cox's house or pool parties at Aniston's home, adding, "Geographically it's not hard to be at Courteney's Sunday dinners or at a pool party at Jen's house. They all feel incredibly close and always will be."

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler met during improv training in 1993 and consider their friendship akin to family. "I think that Tina and I are chosen sisters," Poehler, whose sole sibling is younger brother Greg, told PopSugar while discussing their 2015 flick Sisters. "I think we are chosen family, so I think it's been fun to experience that thing I never got to experience in real life."

Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps formed an immediate bond on the set of Dawson's Creek. "It was like, you know, how people say love at first sight? We had that thing," Philipps told Entertainment Weekly of their initial interaction. "We had that friend connection. It was just an immediate: 'Of course we're drinking wine and smoking cigarettes and getting in bar fights.' We just had an immediate love for each other that's continued over the years." The pair frequently work red carpets together, wear coordinating outfits, and occasionally dye Williams' hair millennial pink.

Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria have supported each other through career and family milestones. Washington, a mother of two who benefited from helpful women during pregnancy, told Entertainment Tonight, "I really do try to have those conversations openly and honestly as possible, especially with my soul sister, with Eva." Grand Hotel actress Longoria called the Scandal alum "basically my doula" when welcoming her son Santiago in 2018.

Decades of collaboration and unexpected entertainment pairings

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have maintained a 35-year friendship after growing up together and co-writing the Oscar-winning screenplay for Good Will Hunting. "I've known him for 35 years, and we grew up together," Damon told Entertainment Tonight in 2016 as they reunited to work on The Last Duel. "We were both in love with the same thing, acting and filmmaking. I think we fed on each other's obsession during really formative, important years and that bonded us for life."

Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King built their connection in 1976 while working at a Baltimore television station, where Winfrey anchored the 6 p.m. news and CBS This Morning cohost King worked as a 12,000-dollar-a-year production assistant. King recalled "the newsroom hierarchy" in their O Interview, but after Winfrey invited King to stay at her house during a heavy snowstorm, Winfrey recalled, "The next day we went to the mall," where they bonded over Casual Corner sweaters.

Tennis champion Serena Williams and Meghan Markle met at a 2014 Super Bowl event. "We hit it off immediately," Meghan wrote on her now-shuttered lifestyle website The Tig, describing how they were "taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff." Their bond includes watching Williams compete for Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles and get-togethers at a palace.

Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams formed a lasting bond playing the Stark sisters across eight seasons of the 12 Emmy-winning HBO drama. Williams served as Turner's maid of honor when she wed Joe Jonas in 2019, having previously joked to E! News at the final season premiere, "It was like one big elaborate thing to find me a best friend. This whole show!" She added, "I'm kidding. It's been incredible. To have a friend like that on something as wild as this is just like a godsend, really."

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston first connected in 2000 when Witherspoon portrayed Aniston's sister on Friends. "I was 23 years old and had just had a baby," Witherspoon recalled to Harper's Bazaar of her two-episode arc. "I was nursing Ava [Phillippe] on set, and Jen just kept going, 'You have a baby?' I was like, 'I know, it's weird.' And I remember her being like, 'Where are you going?' And I was like, 'I'm pumping!'" Witherspoon added, "We've been friends ever since," before the pair later teamed up to develop Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg solidified their connection at The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber in 2015 before teaming up for VH1 cooking show Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party. "She different, ya know, than what I'm accustomed," the marijuana-loving 17-time Grammy winner told LA Weekly of the Westchester-based domestic doyenne. "But then again she's so what I'm accustomed to. 'Cause she people. She just look different and she was born in a different era, but if you hang out with her and chill with her, she just like anybody else. That's why it works, because she never says nothing that's crazy in my ears. It's always like, 'Damn, I thought you would say that. OK.' That's why we get down, that's why we connected, Martha. 'Cause it feels like holy matrimony, and not holy macaroni."

Recording artists Adele and Drake formed a friendship after years of existing in the same orbit. "I really want us to do an official remix," the Hello singer told Canada's etalk, adding, "I love Drake. I love Drake so much. I even got the coat that's in the video, I got it delivered the other day, I ordered it. The red one." Drake responded, "I'd do anything with Adele. I'd literally go to Adele's house right now and do laundry for her," before the pair grabbed a bite to eat and hit up a Los Angeles bowling alley.
