Gwyneth Paltrow and her lookalike daughter Apple Martin appeared side by side in swimsuits during a relaxing sunbathing session shared on social media recently. The 53-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who founded the lifestyle brand Goop in 2008, posted the make-up free photographs to her Instagram account alongside the caption, "Summer, so far so good."
Paltrow flashed her cleavage in a black plunging swimsuit teamed with chic shades for the mother-daughter snapshot. Her 22-year-old daughter Apple, whose father is musician Chris Martin, matched her mother's relaxed style by rocking a red and white striped string bikini.
Elsewhere in the photo carousel, Paltrow went topless as she posed with snacks while showing off her radiant complexion. The star also shared a snapshot of her daughter checking out flowers in the garden during their afternoon outdoors.
Paltrow gained global fame for her film roles, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for Shakespeare in Love and later starring as Pepper Potts in Marvel Cinematic Universe titles such as Iron Man. She shares Apple and 20-year-old son Moses with her former husband Chris Martin, the lead singer and co-founder of the British rock band Coldplay.
Hollywood debut in Paris Paramount
The sunbathing post comes as aspiring actress Apple prepares to make her feature film debut in the upcoming romantic comedy Paris Paramount in a role that has yet to be announced.
Last month, Apple was seen filming on location in Los Angeles alongside actor Owen Wilson, who is known for starring in comedies such as Wedding Crashers and Cars. Wilson famously starred alongside Paltrow 25 years ago in director Wes Anderson's acclaimed comedy-drama The Royal Tenenbaums.
Apple is entering the screen industry as a third-generation actress in a family dynasty that includes her maternal grandmother, veteran stage and screen actress Blythe Danner, who starred in Meet the Parents and Will & Grace. On the set of Paris Paramount, the young actress was the spitting image of her mother, wearing her blonde locks pulled back in a ponytail with a peach cardigan and jeans while beaming and laughing with crew members.
According to online film database IMDB, Paris Paramount tells the story of a young filmmaker who falls for a movie producer. After making several hits together, the creative couple break up and must later reunite to work on a high-profile project featuring volatile Hollywood stars.
The feature is being directed by Nancy Meyers, the filmmaker celebrated for her signature cinematic style and box office hits including The Parent Trap, What Women Want, and Something's Gotta Give. In addition to Wilson and Martin, the movie stars Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Erin Doherty, Jude Law, Tony Hale, and Beverly D'Angelo.
Apple was previously slated to appear in Meyers' 2015 comedy film The Intern, though that role did not come to fruition. She subsequently began making a name for herself in the modeling world, working for major retail and fashion brands such as Gap and French fashion house Chloé, while also pursuing a short-lived singing career.
Career pivot and talent representation
Apple has signed with an agent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the major talent firm based in Los Angeles. She is also working with her mother's manager, Cade Hudson, at Hudson Management Group.
Earlier this year, Apple confirmed that her main focus was now on acting, having recently made a cameo appearance in the HBO comedy series Rooster.
Apple graduated from Vanderbilt University, a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned a degree in law, history, and society. Speaking to Vogue magazine in February, she explained that she now wants to follow in her mother's footsteps after moving past a rebellious phase where she initially avoided her parents' career paths.
"I don't wanna be a singer," Apple told Vogue during the interview. "I like musical theater, but getting onstage by yourself to sing is so terrifying."
Family history and co-parenting
Paltrow and Chris Martin married in 2003 before publicly announcing their separation in 2014 under the phrase "conscious uncoupling," a statement that attracted widespread media attention. They finalized their divorce in 2016, but have remained famously close co-parents while raising Apple and Moses.
Paltrow went on to marry television producer Brad Falchuk in 2018, blending their families. Falchuk, known for co-creating hit series such as Glee and American Horror Story, shares two children, Isabella and Brody, with his former wife Suzanne Bukinik.
