Actor Jude Law and his wife Phillipa Coan are making painstaking plans to renovate their £7.25 million London home, including dedicated quarters for a nanny.

The 53-year-old star of The Talented Mr Ripley, who has seven children from two marriages and two less formal partnerships, bought the property in 2022. Law described the house two years later as not "actually habitable." Law and Coan, 41, a psychologist, are seeking permission to install new gates with an "integrated package drop-off compartment" to minimise unexpected visitors at the end of their long drive.

Grounds at the property will feature a "sun garden" and a "sun terrace." An extension designed for their two young children will contain a playroom, a "homework area" and a children's garden. The additions align with Law's statement in 2024 that he is "very happy ageing."

Plans submitted to the local authority outline a detached cottage positioned just yards from the main house. The ground floor will feature a steam room and a gym, where Law keeps in "formidable shape" using boxing and martial arts routines. The upper floor provides almost 500 square feet designated in official plans as "nanny bed" and "nanny living room."

The property marks a move away from Law's previous north London residences. He previously lived in Primrose Hill with first wife Sadie Frost and their three children, where the couple belonged to the "Primrose Hill Set." In 2010, while engaged for a second time to actress Sienna Miller, Law purchased an £8 million Georgian terrace in Highgate.

Law and Miller first became engaged in 2004 after starring together in the remake of Alfie. Their relationship ended after details surfaced of Law's affair with a weekend nanny who accompanied him and his children to America. The nanny recalled the affair as "amazing" and described Law as "a masterful lover" in a seven-page tabloid exposé.

Law had his fourth child in 2009 following a week-long fling with New York waitress Samantha Burke. He fathered a fifth child in 2015 with singer Cat Cavelli, whom he met in a Soho bar. Coan has given birth to two more children with Law.

Alan Carr Expresses Concern Over Edinburgh Fringe Discovery

Comedian and chat-show host Alan Carr has voiced concerns that the Edinburgh Festival Fringe no longer functions as a launchpad for emerging performers. The 50-year-old winner of The Celebrity Traitors rose to national prominence after his 2005 stand-up show at the festival led to television opportunities on The Friday Night Project and Chatty Man.

Carr noted that online platforms have reshaped how audiences discover comedy talent at the world's largest performing arts festival. "You don't get discovered there any more," Carr said. He added, "Because of social media, people know [about you]. You never get that surprise act; no one ever gets word of mouth, and that's a shame."
