Kate Moss was all smiles as she arrived at a party hosted by supermodel Twiggy in New York on Thursday, changing out of a casual Tommy Hilfiger shirt into a black minidress and white blazer for the occasion.
Moss, 52, was there to support Twiggy at a US screening of the fashion icon's self-titled documentary, which charts her decades-long career and is set for release on demand in America on September 22.
The outing came on the same day her former partner Pete Doherty appeared several thousand miles away at the Deauville Film Festival in France, where he attended the Icon Award ceremony dressed in a suit and scarf.
Moss and Doherty, the Libertines frontman, had an on-off romance during the mid-2000s that made them one of Britain's most talked-about celebrity couples at the time.
Doherty's autobiography revelations
Doherty later detailed the turbulence of the relationship in his autobiography, A Likely Lad, including a claim that he once accidentally set off a panic alarm in Moss's bedroom at her home in St John's Wood, north-west London, bringing 12 armed police officers to the door.
Doherty's drug use repeatedly disrupted his career. He once pleaded guilty in court to seven charges of possession, avoiding jail but being ordered into rehab, a pattern that recurred throughout his time with Moss.
The Meadows rehab and the Grand Canyon promise
In 2005, Moss said she would stand by Doherty, the son of an Army Major, when he checked into the Meadows rehab clinic in Arizona, a facility popular with celebrities. The trip ended in another falling out between the pair.
According to Doherty, after he told Moss how unhappy he was at the clinic, she said she would cheer him up with a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon. She never turned up, and he checked himself out of the Meadows shortly afterwards. Moss then ended the relationship.
In an extract published by The Guardian, Doherty said he had all his drugs hidden in his luggage when he arrived for treatment, but staff found them, including items concealed in the lining of his jeans. He described the clinic as a mix of "absolutely loaded trust-fund kids and people trying to avoid federal convictions by doing rehab," and said he was horrified when one man in group therapy admitted he was there for looking at child pornography online, adding that he refused to be in a group with him.
Doherty said that after two weeks, Moss was due to visit and take him to the Grand Canyon by helicopter, and that he "got the right hump" when she failed to show, eventually leaving the programme early. He said that when Moss found out he had not finished treatment, she told him bluntly that they could no longer see each other, to which he replied that she had been supposed to collect him by helicopter for the day trip.
Doherty said Moss was unhappy about the episode, and it was among the factors that ended their tumultuous two-year relationship in July 2007.
Life after Kate Moss
Doherty appeared to settle down after he began dating his former Puta Madres bandmate Katia de Vidas in 2012. The couple relocated to the French seaside, with Doherty swapping crack and heroin for what he has described as a new fondness for French cheese.
Moss's own drinking, which reportedly once extended to prosecco at 8am and wine and vodka at lunchtime, earned her the nickname "The Tank" among friends. In recent years, she has embraced yoga, wellness and quiet nights in.
Family time with sister Lottie
The model has spent much of the summer on holiday with her daughter Lila and friends. Since returning to the UK, she has caught up with her sister Lottie Moss, posing for photographs together at their father Peter's birthday lunch.
The sisters previously fell out after Lottie began working on the adult subscription site OnlyFans following her move to Los Angeles in 2021. Lottie has said she suspected people in the UK would be less forgiving than in America, but was still unprepared for the reaction when she returned, saying she lost many friends from the modelling industry and that her mother did not speak to her for weeks, leaving her family "a little bit in turmoil."
Speaking on her podcast, Dream On with Lottie Moss, she said Los Angeles has many OnlyFans creators and pornographic actors who are accepted into society without much scrutiny, but that moving back to London made the situation feel real, with friends believing she was having a serious mental breakdown. Lottie, who attended the £20,000-a-year Bede's school, has previously said Kate does not even reply to her texts, despite the sisters once being close enough that Lottie was a bridesmaid at Kate's 2011 wedding to Jamie Hince and lived in her sister's Cotswolds home during the Covid pandemic.
