QuintoAndar survey reveals Brazilian dream property: house with three bedrooms, garage, pool and barbecue

Anyone who thinks that the Brazilian dream is to live in a villa or an attic is wrong: a Home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms (being a suite), two parking spaces and which has, in addition to an office, game room, party roomswimming pool, barbecue, vegetable garden and space for pets it is the ideal property for the majority of the population . This is what emerges from an unprecedented survey commissioned by QuintoAndar and carried out by Offerwise with 1500 people across Brazil.

The study points out that Brazilians live, on average, in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home with one parking space. Most do not have space for a home office or leisure area.

Increasing the number of bedrooms is considered the main desire of the population today. When asked what they won’t give up if they can only choose one option for their dream home, 38% mention ‘rooms’ – and another 21% say ‘suites’.

Even luxury items do not seem to attract the majority: 59%, for example, say they are not interested in a private cinema. Most don’t even care about the toy library, the sports field, the elevator, the sauna, the orchard and the 24-hour doorman.

“The survey reinforces the fact that the majority of the population doesn’t want anything lavish. They want a bigger and more comfortable home, something that meets their core needs,” says Thiago Reis, data manager at QuintoAndar.

According to those interviewed, the dream property is a house: 67% cite this option, against 21% who indicate an apartment and 11% who cite a place or a farmhouse. And this property must be in the capital for 44% of the ears; 34% prefer the interior or the coast.

Security, more space and peace of mind

According to the survey, the top ten criteria chosen to decide on this dream property are:

  • Living in a safer region: 30%
  • Exit rent: 25%
  • Have outdoor space (like a backyard or porch): 24%
  • Live in a quieter/quieter region: 23%
  • Living in a property with more space or rooms: 22%
  • A property with better infrastructure: 21%
  • Have space for leisure (for parties, barbecue area, playground): 19%
  • Improved neighborhood infrastructure (public transportation, schools, shops): 19%
  • Staying Closer to Family: 15%
  • Property/condominium value: 14%

The main difficulty in realizing the dream of the ideal home is no secret: money. According to the survey, 62% cite economic conditions as an impediment. Finding property the way you want (with 10%) and having a job that allows you to work from home/live where you want (with 8%) round out this top 3.

The survey also wanted to know if the perception of the ideal property was influenced by the pandemic. But 47% say no. Moreover, 28% say yes, that they think the house should be bigger/have a courtyard or balcony, and 16% believe that a space to have an office is now essential.

How the search was done

Project by Uneek Architecture.

The survey, commissioned by QuintoAndar, was carried out by Offerwise, through an online questionnaire. 1,500 men and women aged 18 and over, from all social classes, were interviewed in the five regions of Brazil. The survey was conducted from December 5 to 12 and has a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points, with a 95% confidence interval.

It is important to note that some questions, because they allow the choice of more than one option, extrapolate the sum of 100% in the answers.
