“It’s a classic bullying situation,” the actor said during an appearance on MSNBC on Sunday night.
Robert De Nirofamous critic of donald trumppraised the protests “No Kings” over the weekend, saying it’s important that people “don’t give up” because the president “doesn’t want to leave the White House.”
The actor appeared on the program The Weekend on Sundayfrom the MSNBCand took the opportunity to speak out against the attempt to Trump to remain in office for a third term, in addition to talking about how Americans are positioning themselves against him.
“The original protest of No Kings occurred 250 years ago,” noted De Niroreferring to the American Revolution, which began in 1775. “Americans decided they did not want to live under the rule of the King George III. They declared their independence and fought a bloody war for democracy. We have had two and a half centuries of democracy since then. Often challenging, sometimes confusing, always essential, and we fought two World Wars to preserve it.”
He added: “Now we have a wannabe king who wants to take it from us? King Donald I. What the hell. We are rising again this time. Raising our voices non-violently to declare ‘No Kings’.”
De Niro said he was “very happy” to see around seven million Americans attending the marches “No Kings“. “We need a lot more of this going forward, because that’s the only thing politicians will recognize: facing the wrath of Trump or the wrath of the people,” the actor said. “And they need to be more afraid of the wrath of the people and realize that it’s not good. I better get ready and do something about it.”
Regarding continuing the effort, he said: “We can’t give up. We can’t give up on him because he’s not going to leave the White House. He doesn’t want to leave the White House. He won’t let go White House. Anyone who thinks he’s going to do this, is going to do that. You’re just deluding yourself. The Republicans, mainly, because they know this, but they are following it. It’s a classic bullying situation. We see this, and there is no other way to face a ‘bully’; you have to face it, fight it, push it away and make it retreat. It’s the only way this works.”
Americans in all 50 states marched against Trump and his policies on the Sabbath. The day marked the second edition of the protests “No Kings“, following a massive effort on June 14. Several celebrities expressed their support for the protests, including John Cusackwho marched in Chicago. “No, you cannot put troops on our streets,” he said Cusack the Trumpspeaking of CNN. “You can’t create enough chaos to invoke the Insurrection Act so you can stay in power. We all know what your plan is.” He added: “Go to hell!”
