The event lasts until this Saturday (the 11th)
One of the topics discussed at Casa Clã, the largest women’s event of Editora Abril, this Thursday March 9, was women’s empowerment and career. In the talk “Empowerment and self-love: fat women in the labor market”, which took place at 11, the guests Letticia Munniz, Gabi Menez AND Mabe Bonafè, had a conversation with the audience about the marginalization of substandard bodies and the mental health of fat people. Together they shared their experiences as fat women in the job market and told about the difficulties of dealing with fatphobia in everyday life. The table was moderated by Alessandra Balleseditor-in-chief of Veja.
Letticia Munniz is a presenter, digital influencer and model. On social media you produce various contents that address issues related to the representation of fat bodies in public and private spaces.
“There have always been two things in my life, the pressure of always having to be very tidy not to be considered relaxed because of my body and, in all my work, the problem of being hypersexualized. Even today, people tell me loads and it’s like the person thinks I’m not a professional,” Letticia reports in an interview with CLAUDIA.
“I always suffered from these two causes, but I still had a job. There are people who don’t get hired because they are fat, because they think that person won’t be good and will make the company look bad. Or, if he is, a other kind of work, they’ll think that person doesn’t have the physical stamina to work, that they’ll always be tired, that’s this, that’s that,” he adds.
Gabi Menezes is an eating disorder psychologist and co-founder of @saúdesemgordofobia. She explains how the idea of creating her project was born. “We already had a list of some professionals, mainly gynecologists, cardiologists that we passed on to our patients so they could have this humanized care. We needed to extend it to all people, because some professionals deserve to have this knowledge and I think there are many hidden people who do this kind of service and don’t even know where they can disclose it, so it’s a platform that grows as we get referrals from people and good health professionals,” he says.

CLOTHES
Immediately after the talk, Mabê, who is a writer, screenwriter and podcaster, also gave an interview to CLAUDIA and underlined the difficulty of finding clothing in her size. “I think I was able to really find myself when I started to have more purchasing power, so I was able to access it, because I like very different clothes, I like to dress in a way that you can’t find in a conventional store”, points out. .
“At the same time it’s magical, it’s very inspiring, because it’s like something new, that’s starting to be done now. It’s very hard to find factories that want to make it, and it’s hard to develop models for all the bodies, which are very much the same time, I think it’s the greatest joy of my life, not only for me, but because I know that, by doing so, other women will find these garments to wear, to feel beautiful, warm and wonderful”, underlines Letticia, who today has a own brand of clothing.
