In relaxed conversation, they talked about various topics related to motherhood and some stigmas that accompany women from childhood. “Like everyone, I learned from an early age. This is something historically constructed and my motherhood was born from this crystallization… But everything went wrong,” joked Ana Carolina, commenting how expectations had been frustrated.
She and Mari shared some personal experiences to exemplify how much more challenging parenting is than theory might assume. “At the moment of the explosion, sometimes I need to stop and think ‘what’s happening to me?’. See if I need to stop, talk, reconfigure the house,” says Ana.
Children as everyone’s responsibility
Mari also points out how the division of labor can be much more equal between men and women when you look at the facts and not the papers. “For example, you have to pick up the child from school – who is available? She still emphasizes how much we forget that children are the responsibility of all of us – collectively. “We individualize everything,” he emphasizes.
Finally, Ana warns that we must put an end to the idea that “a mother is born, guilt is born.” “It’s one of the things in the manual that needs to be cut out, because it’s what makes us doubt ourselves and affects the building of relationships”, he points out, recalling that “there are so many political and social traps that generate an overload on women, that he often fails to do or be what he wants”. Being aware of this is a first step towards a lighter motherhood with fewer burdens.
