Turkish TV series “Tormented”: why he is experiencing a second wave of public love in Russia

Strictly speaking, this series is already known to those who are deeply immersed in the subject of the Turkish dizi. His original name is Sen Anlat Karadeniz, which translates to “Tell me, Karadeniz”.

Karadeniz is a region of the Black Sea in Turkey, a very picturesque place, closely related to the plot of the show (in some translations the series is called “Tell me, Black Sea”). Dizi premiered in 2018: A total of 3 seasons were released, divided into 64 episodes.

“Tormented” – with this name Sen Anlat Karadeniz will officially be released on the Russian channel in April 2023. Apparently, there will be more episodes due to the fact that their timing will change (in the original, one episode lasts 2.5 hours). Major plot twists are reflected in the ad – Turdisi trailer “Tormented” has already been released in Russian.

What is this series, which has already been called a competitor to the super popular Windy, about? Warning, the description contains information that could be perceived as a spoiler – do not read if you have not watched the series and do not want to know the additional details!

The main character of Tormented is a young woman Nefez Zorlu (Irem Helvacioglu). The cruel father married her at an early age, coveting the wealth of the businessman who got engaged Vedata Sayara – in fact, Nefez was sold. Her husband is a real psychopath, and, alas, he turns out very quickly. The girl’s family is no longer happy with the new relative, but it is too late – it is impossible to get rid of him.

Behind the beautiful facade of Nefez and Vedat’s family life, hides a terrible thing: the husband beats and rapes his wife, and the birth of a son Yigita does not ease his fate – on the contrary, the child is also in danger.

All this takes place in the form of a retrospective – dizi begins with the fact that Nefez with a child, after another beating, escapes from the monster and hides. She manages to find help and support is provided by an unknown man, Vedat’s business partner. Tahir Kalele (Ulash Tuna Astepe). He is the heir to an influential family that fell in love with Nefez, but will he become this prince or does he want to tame a tormented woman for his benefit?

The series is devoted to the story of Nefez’s attempts to escape from the executioner. There are a lot of pretty violent and triggering scenes here, so “Tormented” may not be the show that fans of lighthearted Turkish romance series will like.

Deasy tackles the hot topic of domestic violence and she’s very candid and consistent. Series “Tormented” can be called quite difficult to perceive – it is clearly not possible to watch it in the background.

However, there are also some lighthearted and stress-relieving moments here – they include skirmish scenes Asia, Tahir’s sisters, with his mother-in-law. They are shown with humor and irony and demonstrate the comedic talent of actress Öykü Gürman.

The directors also paid a lot of attention to nature. Over the course of three seasons, many scenes were shot in nature – the beauty of Turkey fascinates, and the element of the Black Sea becomes, one might say, a full participant in the plot.
