It is common to find reports on social networks of accidental crossings between different dogs; see the dangers related to it
If you are used to using social networks, then you must have seen reports of people who have crossbred dogs of different breeds, by mistake or not, which ends up giving life to a small hybrid animal. This is so common that some of these “mixtures” even have names, as is the case with Labradoodles (Labrador + Poodle) or Puggles (Pug + Beagle).

According to the veterinarian Dr. Aline Ambrogi Franco Prado, the idea of those who want these hybrid breeds is to perpetuate certain characteristics of each species. “The Cockapoo, for example, is the result of a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. The animals are born with a very nice, curly coat, and usually have the docile characteristics of the two breeds. The same goes for the Labradoodle, Labrador with poodle, which translates to large dogs, long fluffy coats and a very docile temperament,” he explains.
However, before you just crossbreed two dogs of different breeds, it takes a lot of attention, you see? After all, it’s not just any combination you can do without cause harm to the animal that will be born. Therefore, according to the expert, prudence is very important at this time.
Care and problems with hybrid breeds
Hybrid dogs are, in theory, mixed breed (SRD). The difference, according to Dr. Aline, is that SRD dogs are already mixed breeds and hybrids are the result of two pure breeds. According to the veterinarian and professor of the Veterinary Medicine course at UniFAJ, of the UniEduK Group, there are no problems with a dog that is a hybrid, unless this crossing is done in a way that causes health problems for the animal.
“Because genetics isn’t mathematics, we don’t know what traits puppies will inherit. Brachycephalic breeds need caution so puppies aren’t born with breathing difficulties,” explains the professional. Therefore, it is always necessary to consult a veterinarian to find out whether or not it is advisable to breed two specific breeds. He will help you to understand the predispositions that the puppy could have and to make a good follow-up so that the crossing happens correctly.
Without this control by a professional, there is great danger for the newborn puppy genetic mutations which can make the animal suffer a lot during life or even be abandoned at birth.
But how to avoid the intersection?
Considering that you don’t want your dogs to breed, either because of problems the puppies might suffer or for other reasons, the ideal, according to Dr. Aline, is the castration of males and females.
According to the vet, this measure is safer than simply separating the animals during heat, for example, since in that case they could end up interbreeding if there was any carelessness on the part of the keepers.
