Although it is taboo, the scientific community does not discuss: some women can, yes, experience a sensation of pleasure when breastfeeding. The explanation lies in hormones and, according to psychologist and researcher Heloisa Fleury, there is nothing sexual about it.
“It’s not an attraction to the baby, it’s a hormonal reaction. When the woman breastfeeds, she releases oxytocin and prolactin. The former is the love hormone, it causes sensations very similar to orgasm, which are contractions in the uterus, which generates a sensation that is an involuntary response of the body, it is not a sexual attraction to the child,” emphasizes Heloisa.
The theme resonated on social networks after former BBB Rízia Cerqueira said she needed to alert her body so that it understood that whoever had their mouth on her breast was a child and not her husband. In the comments, some women gave similar accounts; other people considered the post inappropriate.
For Heloisa Fleury, part of the amazement at Rízia’s story is the result of misinformation. “Bringing this topic, being able to talk about it is something extremely healthy. More than half of women hear it, it is a significant number, and also mentioned in scientific articles,” she said.
Having clarity about what is happening in our body is also the way to stop feeling ashamed through natural processes, says the psychologist. “When we don’t know what’s going on, it’s much harder to deal with. If she doesn’t know, she might get scared. If she knows it’s natural, she might even go with it, realizing she has a lot more to do with an adaptation than her body. “
After making the post, Rízia tearfully vented on a social network, claiming she had lost an advertising contract. As for the attitude of the brand, Heloisa believes that this “punishment” is a way to maintain prejudice.
