Hair care is a topic that raises many doubts, bringing with it a number of myths and truths. To clarify them, we spoke to Dr. Cristiane Braga, a specialist in dermatology, aesthetic medicine and trichology. Watch!

1. Should I wash my hair more thoroughly in the summer?

REAL. Hair must be washed with some care to avoid excessive dryness: use lukewarm (or cold, when possible) water, use a shampoo intended for normal hair, and always apply a conditioner or mask to your strands (except your scalp) to improve hydration.

2. Does very hot water damage the threads?

REAL. It damages, as it dehydrates the threads and, depending on the temperature of the water, it can even denature their proteins. When the water exceeds 36°C, it stimulates the production of sebaceous glandswhich can contribute to hair loss, leaving it dull and brittle.

REAL. This happens because a moist scalp creates an environment conducive to the growth of fungi and bacteria, increasing the possibility of developing seborrheic dermatitis.

4. Does chamomile lighten hair?

REAL. The dry extract of chamomile, present in the tea, has whitening substances which, in contact with the UV radiation (sun)they have improved.

5. Does chlorine make hair green?

Myth. In fact, chlorine causes oxidation of the pigment, making it less intense. On blond hair it can be slightly greenish.

6. Can the sun burn your hair?

REAL. Just like inside skinUV radiation also damages strands, denaturing their proteins and making them brittle, dry and dull.

7. Does using avocado on hair help moisturize it?

REAL. Avocado has vegetable oils that greatly improve hair hydration.
