Hurb CEO resigns after criticizing client on social media

In recent days, consumers and hoteliers have come forward to report that the packages are not being honoured

The travel agency Hub, formerly Hotel Urbano, has become famous in recent years for the sale of packages at very low prices and for practicing a type of negotiation that did not exist in the Brazilian tourist market until then: the consumer buys a trip with open date and the company has up to five attempts to schedule the appointment. In recent days, however, a large number of consumers have come forward to denounce the fact that trips were not being honored and even the transfer of money to hotel and inn owners has stopped taking place. The last straw was the attitude of the CEO of Hub, João Ricardo Mendes, who on Friday (21) spoke out and exposed a consumer’s personal data on social networks, a practice considered a crime under the general protection law de Dados, and who claimed his trip in a WhatsApp group. This Monday, the CEO of Hub resigned from his post.

A series of posts published this Monday (24th) on Hub’s Twitter brings the outburst of João Ricardo Mendes, who made a mea culpa about what happened. “In fact, these recent events were the mistakes of ‘João Ricardo Mendes’ and not of an entire company, which is much bigger than me. It is clear that this event is a reflection of me – and the criticism I have received it’s a stark reminder that I need to make a dramatic change as a leader and grow.”

In the Facebook group Mistreated by the Hotel Urbano there are several reports of consumers who, in recent days, have arrived at their destination and have been refused check-in at the hotel because Hub had not transferred the money. The owner of Pousada Chalés Madu, in Ubatuba, said she started the partnership with Hurb in October 2022, but that until the end of that period she hadn’t received the value of 19 reservations that had been made through the platform. “After the Carnival, we stopped receiving guests through the Hub because the debts of the 19 reservations that had not yet paid were piling up. For a relatively small inn with 20 rooms like ours, it’s the money that makes the difference,” says Madu Lula , the owner of the inn, who ended up having the money deposited this Monday (24).

According to the Hub release, the head of the board of directors, Otavio Brissant, is expected to take over the leadership on an interim basis.
