Experts explain how to avoid this type of problem and how to treat it if it occurs
Physical exercises are a great way to maintain overall health of the body. Losing weight, gaining muscle mass and maintaining physical condition are some of the benefits provided by activity. However, like any other practice, its excess can cause damage to physical health, including the quality of the skin.

“For the skin, when physical activity is outdoors, it can bring some damage, because the ultraviolet ray is harmful to the skin tissue and can cause flaccidity. And, inside a gym, gestures of pain and force cause the muscles of the face are contracted, which accelerates the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles, as well as accentuating natural creases and crow’s feet lines,” says Dr. Abdo Salomão Jr., dermatologist member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.
Influence on skin aging
According to plastic surgeon Dr. Beatriz Lassance, when tailored, physical exercises are beneficial for the skin. “When we exercise, we generate free radicals, but this stimulates our antioxidant defense. Exercise stimulates antioxidant production!” she says.
Always according to the professional, in addition to the consolidated strength in the exercise practice, excess activity can also cause skin aging.” Now, if energy expenditure is too high, with excessive weight lifting, there is a dramatic increase in the production of free radicals and, without sufficient defenses, we get to stress oxidative that damages several molecules, including collagen and elastin, increasing sagging and degrading skin quality,” he says.
Impact of accelerated weight loss on the skin
Accelerated weight loss, with an inefficient intake of calories or even less protein, is also a mistake that correlates physical exercise and aging. “There is a natural loss of fat throughout the body, including the face, which accentuates existing creases,” says Dr. Abdo Salomão Jr. “As the volume of the face decreases, we are left with more skin and the feeling of relaxation and aging,” recalls Dr. Abdo Salomão Jr. Beatrice Lassance.
Measures to avoid premature wrinkles
A good way to avoid early wrinkles it is reducing excesses, adjusting weights, increasing progressively. Diet should also be related to this goal. For this reason, the best thing to do is to seek a nutritionist or a nutritionist for the ideal consumption of proteins, good quality fats and without forgetting carbohydrates in the exact quantity, to give energy to the body, according to the doctors.
Treatments indicated against skin aging
1. botulinum toxin
Expression lines already installed on the forehead due to eyebrows can be treated with botulinum toxin, according to dermatologist Lilian Brasileiro, a member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. “It acts on the muscles, preventing contractures and skin fractures. However, it is a treatment that must be carried out frequently two or three times a year, as it lasts four months”, says the professional.
two. Botox-like and microfocused ultrasound
For those with needle trauma, you can have a botox-like effect and even raise your eyebrows with microfocused ultrasound. “Atria ultrasound has an action in the deeper layers. It also acts on the SMAS (Superficial Muscle Aponeurotic System), which is the muscle layer deeper and that supports the face. The coagulation points cause a contraction of the muscle, with a lifting effect without surgery,” says Dr. Abdo Salomão.
3. Pico Ultra 300
As for the spots that appear due to the sun, they can be treated with technologies such as the picosecond laser, such as the Pico Ultra 300 or the Picolo. According to dermatologist Dr. Renato Soriani, a member of SBD and an expert in dermatological technologies, this is one of the latest technologies to treat blemishes and melasma.
“The picosecond is equal to one second divided by trillions, i.e. trillionths of seconds. The spot treatment laser, when applied, is capable of ‘tearing’ the pigment, i.e. breaking it into much smaller pieces, which makes it it’s easier for the body to get rid of these pigments with fewer side effects,” says Dr. Renato Soriano.
4. Morpheus and injectable biostimulators
To the flaccidity, there is an infinity of treatments. One of the techniques indicated for mild cases is Morpheus, a device whose tip is equipped with microneedles that penetrate deeply into the skin and release the radiofrequency into the deeper layers.
“Each needle emits radiofrequency to heat the layers of skin tissue, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and firming the skin. The procedure is quick, but the results are not immediate, they appear gradually and improve as more sessions are performed”, says the doctor Renato Soriano.
Another way to stimulate collagen and fight sagging, as well as promote support, is through injectable biostimulators, according to Dr. Lilian Brasileiro. “The substances used are usually polylactic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite; when applied, they cause inflammation very controlled which causes stimulation and an increase in the number of fibroblasts (young cells), causing an increased production of collagen in that region. It is a very interesting technique to promote skin support;the biostimulator is applied on the cheeks, jaw, chin, temples and neck, as indicated», clarifies the dermatologist.
5. Fat graft
In case of volume loss, the use of fat grafting is indicated. “This is a similar technique to applying fill, but uses the patient’s own body fat to fill, define and give volume to the region of the cheekbones. For this, the fat is removed through liposuction, which also helps to thin and define the region where it is performed, which is then treated to remove blood and other cellular debris. After the treatment, the fat is grafted into the cheekbone region through small needles, which is done in a surgical center,” says Dr. Beatriz Lassance.
