The nutritionist reveals some tricks to maintain a balanced diet without giving up delicious foods
OR Mother’s Day lunch, traditionally, is a special time for most Brazilians. On that date, the family usually gathers around the table to catch up, kill the craving, and have a good laugh. It is also at this time that many people go beyond the bounds and plunge headlong into a variety of dishes. Many of them delicious and high in calories.

Barbecue, pasta, alcohol and sweets are common elements in a good Mother’s Day lunch and, let’s face it, it’s not easy to give up all of this. But, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, do we really have to leave all these delights behind?
“Sharing meals favors greater family unity and this is very necessary. Especially in the days in which we live. The question, however, is not necessarily in these dishes, but in the frequency with which they are consumed, the quantity ingested and the accompaniments served “, reveals nutritionist Cyntia Maureen.
just have balance
For the specialist, the key to success is balance. If you, who are in a process of weight loss or food re-education, completely deprive yourself of foods that give you pleasure, this will not be sustainable for a long time and can lead to cravings. On the other hand, if you’re not careful, you can throw away all the effort you put in during the week.
“We must understand that eating is an act of pleasure and, together with the family, it is even more so”, warns the nutritionist.
Mother’s Day lunch options
A good tip is to try to include vegetables in these meals and keep an eye on the portions we eat. It is not uncommon to eat a little more, even after being satisfied. And, according to Cyntia, that’s one of the major villains of good weekend eating behavior. Here are some options that the specialist recommends for Mother’s Day lunch:
“Vegetarian feijoada, for example, is a great option. Lighter, tastier and super nutritious. Vegetable pies, pasta or lasagna itself accompanied by a variety of raw vegetables. It is important to understand that raw salad, in addition to providing us essential nutrients for life, they favor satiety, therefore, by consuming it, the intake of the main course will be lower, not causing a great impact on the diet”, reveals the nutritionist.
How to deal with guilt
But, if by any chance you lost control, didn’t follow the advice of the nutritionist and crossed the line at the Mother’s Day lunch, keep calm. Nothing is lost. “Breathe, don’t blame yourself and resume good choices the next day. One step at a time, so that new habits are incorporated more naturally and without suffering or guilt”, recommends the specialist.
For the practitioner, a good diet may not be orthodox. Much less focus only on weight loss. “When we understand that we need to re-educate our diet, we work with the choices. Because we know what is best for us and we “run away” from the routine with no weight on our conscience. Diets, in general, cause a feeling of prohibition, which ends up bringing to food cravings and it makes it worse,” concludes Cyntia.
