Eighteen US states have recorded 81 cases of bacterial contamination
The use of contaminated eye drops has resulted in the deaths of four people in the United States. The medicine was contaminated with a species of rare, drug-resistant bacteria, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the CDC, on Friday (5/19), most of the patients had been using EzriCare and Delsam Pharma eye drops, manufactured by Global Pharma Healthcare, India. Health inspectors visited the factory in the Asian country, where they discovered problems in the production and testing process.
The products were pulled from pharmacies in February, when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the equivalent of Anvisa, issued a notice warning people not to buy the eye drops. At least seven people have been diagnosed since the recall.
