Being in welcoming environments makes us wake up in a good mood, open the window, contemplate the sunrise, smile and feel gratitude, “rain or shine”!
Some people will say they like warmer days, others that they like cold weather, and still others will list many other reasons and preferences. The important thing is to be clear about the influence of physical environments on our emotional and physical health.
How do you feel at home and in your work environment?
When I am contacted by clients who want to renovate their home or a certain environment, I try to understand and be sensitive to their real wishes, as well as listen to their transformation goals. Most of the time I perceive an urgency not only in the realization of the project, but above all in the realization of a deeper desire. And usually “it’s for yesterday.” In other words, it is a project for better living the present.
The value of living well in the present
According to a study conducted by Casa do Construtor in collaboration with the research company AGP, seven out of ten Brazilians have carried out renovation work in their homes during the Covid pandemic.
The reforms demonstrate a general need that spans multiple classes. Out of 400 respondents, 78% come from class AB and 54% from class C.
Interestingly, this research shows that regardless of returning to professional activities, home renovations are not expected to decrease. The data indicate that 77% of AB class members intending to carry out renovation work will continue with the work in the homes, while 60% are in class C.
And do you think it’s all about having a beautiful and luxurious property? Whether it’s a residential or commercial project, I realize that people are looking for something more, where the translation of that feeling is: “I really want to feel good here!”
You know that favorite corner? More than sophistication, the environment must be comfortable, welcoming, welcoming. There is no greater satisfaction than hearing from someone who comes to our house: “What a beautiful place!”
People want it for themselves. There is an urgency to this, especially at the moment we are living, where many have had to make their homes their offices, studios, offices, etc.
Well-being and productivity hand in hand: an awakening at its best
Covid19 has made us rethink many of life’s problems. One of them is in relation to the real value of well-being in a welcoming environment, especially as we have had to isolate ourselves and adapt to new routines at home and at work. For example: working at home, the so-called home office. A new reality for many people.
But it was at this critical moment of the pandemic that the need to stay in that place and to feel at ease was awakened. The uncertainty of the future crossed many people’s minds and all they wanted at that moment was to live with all the best they were entitled to.
From the best food, through the best sheets, to the need to renovate their homes, apartments, lofts, transforming them into more welcoming environments. After all, the time at home, alone or with the family, would be longer. The present moment then receives a gift from life: the best!
In addition to feeling the need to give more value to the present, they have begun to observe how important it is to respect its essence. The place where life is shared says a lot about a person. Need to bring physical and mental comfort.
It is where people meet and welcome their stories, feelings and emotions, whether to have fun with family and closest friends or to work and be productive.
YES! Productivity is directly related to a harmonious, clean, beautiful, comfortable and welcoming environment.
4 tips for you to make an environment more welcoming
In general, in this context, an environment must be functional, comfortable and welcoming.
Based on these three pillars and feedback from clients and friends, I’ve prepared four tips that can help you reframe your favorite space and share the benefits of this transformation with others.
1. Lighting
In addition to making the environment more welcoming, the right lighting for every environment and occasion makes the difference in everyday life. There is adequate lighting for both work, which can interfere with performance, and rest, which also interferes with health. Try to pay attention not only to artificial lighting, but also to natural lighting. Both must be considered to ensure comfort in the room.
2. Ergonomics
Invest in good and proper furniture and enjoy its benefits. They help prevent various health problems. Try to follow the recommendations of ergonomic experts, sticking to height standards for tables, adjustable chairs for work, proper distance and height for the television and sofa, and even the chair for the dining table and bed.
3. Infrastructure
I recommend a layout that includes all outlets and switches, climate control, lighting, networking and ergonomics. If you intend to renovate or build from scratch, adapting the infrastructure can generate more savings and, above all, bring more practicality so that the environment is more welcoming.
4. Decoration
Cherry on the cake! The decor must be connected to each person’s story. Invest in a decoration that translates your essence. A resource widely used by professionals and now also by self-taught people is the moodboard, which translated into Portuguese means mood or temperament board, or even semantic board. Help design ideas using colors, images, textures, and more.
I hope these tips help and inspire you at home, at work, and wherever you are.
