Flap: know the system that makes the TV appear and disappear from the ceiling

The architect Rosangela Pena explains how the TV Flap works, what are its advantages and in which situations it can be used

What is a Flap TV?

Have you ever heard of it television counter? They are those televisions that are “hidden” in the ceiling and can appear or disappear depending on the user’s desire.

The Flap is the support equipment that is recessed in the false ceiling and activated by an automated system or remote control with opening and closing movements. In his projects, the architect Rosangela Piumathe facade of the office that bears his name uses this resource to create modern and functional environments.

“Usually, we install the baffle when we have no walls available to put the television or when we need it certain angle so that everyone in the room can see the TV. It often happens on the balconies of residential apartments,” explains the architect. It is also a good option for rooms where the TV needs to face the bed but there is no structure for it.

This system was already popular in commercial environments and high-end homes. However, modernization has popularized the equipment, making it more accessible to families.

Flip-up installation

On the gourmet balcony, the architect Rosangela Pena has provided a 180-degree rotating door.

Composed of a adaptable aluminum support, the equipment is perfect for different types of environments. However, its presence requires some specific adaptations in the project, such as the definition of the position, since this point of the ceiling must undergo an adaptation that will house all the components of the system, including the TV support.

“Among the precautions that we have analyzed, we have verified the fixing on a slab or on a durable construction and the liner application should be 18 to 21cm in height for an accurate fit“, explains the architect.

Advantages of Flat TV

Without the possibility of positioning the TV on the wall, the architect Rosangela Pena chose to place the Flap in a place with the best angle for people to see it.

There is no doubt that, among the main advantages of the Flap, the practicality it is the main one. In the most varied design situations it comes into play when you don’t have a wall available to install the TV, nor the space for a rack. With different sizes ranging from 36” to 65” electronic, it does not produce any loud noise.

flap and decoration

Activated with a simple command, Flap TV is easy for anyone designing an interior project, since the available spaces can be used for other elements of the environment. Another positive point is the possibility of adapting the Flap support, installed on the ceiling, so that it ‘disappears’ from the field of vision or is incorporated into the lighting design.

Convenience and practicality

In this wardrobe project created by the architect Rosangela Pena, the Flap was used to optimize the space, as there are no walls for inserting the TV.

Convenience and practicality sum up the Flap’s role well, as the user does not need to leave his workstation to activate the system. Another important point is visual well-being, since the the decoration is cleaner and lighter with the absence of the TV in the field of vision. In addition, the system allows for height adjustments, adapting the distance so that it is not harmful to health.

“It looks super cool in bedrooms for children and the elderly, thus preserving eye health,” notes the architect.

The TV Flap also scores points with the second one, as the TV is at a height that is difficult to access and fixed to a sturdy support that prevents any kind of fall. For the professional, the secret is to purchase the system from a qualified manufacturer.

“My advice is that the resident adapt the Flap correctly to the environment. It is necessary to study and care so that everyone in the environment can watch TV,” he concludes.
