It is in this environment that the child will spend most of his time, playing, sleeping, studying and exploring his creativity. Therefore, it is crucial to create an adequate space that encourages and supports their healthy growth.
Evolution in the decoration of children’s rooms
There are many possible ways to decorate a children’s room. A few years ago it was common for the room to be painted blue for boys and pink for girls. But over time, as well as in decoration in general, trends are updated and adapted to their times.
Today, there are countless options for decorating a children’s room that they provide safetyincentives for coordination and cognition, not to mention comfort and harmony, which help you sleep well at night.
Promote independence and creativity
For architect Luciana Patriarcha, a specialist in psychoarchitecture, the bedroom should be a place of discovery. “OR room A child’s space should be one that inspires them to explore, create and express themselves freely. For this, it is essential to consider some key elements in its design. Firstly, it is important to have furniture that allows easy and safe movement. In this way the child will be free to move, stimulating her sense of independence. In addition, it is nice to offer different areas in the bedroom, such as a reading corner, a space for games and a table for drawing and creating,” she explains.
Importance of organization
According to Marília Scabora, psychologist and founder of Comunidade Tribo Mãe, a group that offers psychological support and maternal support to expatriate mothers, the organization of the environment also plays a crucial role in stimulating children’s independence and creativity.
“Keeping toys and materials organized on shelves or boxes, within easy reach of the child, encourages their autonomy and responsibility. By having direct access to their toys and materials, the child is encouraged to explore, choose and create, developing their ability to make decisions and express themselves,” he reveals.
Montessori decoration
One of the most accepted models is usually the fourth Montessori, which stimulates children’s self-confidence and creativity. “The Montessori room prioritizes education. It is a methodology created by an Italian educator named Maria Montessori and is designed in a way to encourage children in a safe way and make them explore the environment,” explains Luciana.
“For this reason the bed is low, so that they [os pequenos] have autonomy to get on and off when they want. The furniture is low, the toys [ficam] within reach of the child. The idea of this project is to help the child explore the room and help him with this whole part of development,” she adds.
Create a sense of belonging and identity
It is also essential that the bedroom is a space that reflects the interests and personality of the child. “Allowing the child to participate in the decoration process, choosing colors, objects and decorative elements that they like, helps to create a sense of belonging and favors the development of their identity. This active participation in the process of creating the environment also contributes to strengthen the child’s self-esteem and confidence,” says the architect.
Benefits of a well-appointed bedroom
When creating a room for children that encourages independence and creativity, it is necessary to consider elements such as the arrangement of the furniture, the organization of the environment, the participation of the child in the decorating process and the provision of different areas for activities.
“Studies show that children who have a well-organized and stimulating space to sleep and play tend to be more independent, creative and focused on growth and development,” concludes Marilia Scabora.
