Jim is 173cm tall and weighs 75kg and hits the gym three times a week, with each session lasting two hours. He recently competed in an IFBB Professional League event in Reno, Nevada, placing third in the Over 70 category and first in the Over 80 category.

The retiree posed nude in September last year for men’s magazine Men’s Health and, in the interview, revealed that he started lifting weights at the age of 14 and remains focused on the gym.

Arrington was asthmatic as a child and was “often ill”. So, he started to see the gym as a way to boost his health. “I wanted to be a superhero,” he told the Guinness Book website.

He has competed in bodybuilding competitions for over 50 years and ever since he hit the record books, Jim has wanted to inspire seniors. “So you can’t do the things you used to do. It’s really daunting, but it’s important to keep fighting,” he advised.

“At my age the body is much more fragile. You have to be more careful when you train and you can’t abuse it. Tendons have a tendency to want to fall apart,” she said.
