A five-month-old baby suffers from two life-threatening heart defects. This is the story of little Luiza Espíndola Faccin, born in Pato Branco, Paraná. The baby was born in February and was diagnosed with interventricular communication (CVI) – the same anomaly that affected the daughter of Thaila Ayala and Renato Góes, now operated on and recovering – and atrial communication (ASD).

The first condition is an improper opening in the wall dividing the ventricles, allowing blood to pass from one chamber to another. The second occurs when the two atria communicate, which causes the right side of the heart, which receives blood from the body and sends it to be oxygenated in the lungs, also receives the already oxygenated blood that comes from the left side.

The consequence of these two malformations is that more blood than it should go to the lungs, leaving the organ soggy and more prone to the development of infections. In the midst of this, the heart is also overloaded and the baby has difficulty feeding due to the effort to swallow, as cardiologist Renata Mattos, a member of the Brazilian Society of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology (SBHCI), explained to the Metrópoles portal.

The publication reports reports from the baby’s mother, manicurist Patrícia Faccin, and points out that these are the symptoms Luiza is dealing with: the baby, born weighing 2.3 kg, now weighs only 3.4 kg, less than expected for his age.

This income is also necessary for the treatment of the child. Doctors need her to gain weight to perform the surgery that can solve the problems. However, Luiza’s situation worsened.

In May, she had pneumonia and had to be intubated. In addition, access to her neck was contaminated with hospital fungus, which posed a greater risk to the boy’s already serious condition.

Luiza’s problem can be treated in the Unified Health System, but the family has created an online crowdfunding to raise R$50,000 and treat her in a private hospital. Until the afternoon of this Friday (21st), i the campaign started this July it has 106 supporters and R$ 16.9 thousand raised.

“This surgery costs an average of R$ 30,000.00 to R$ 100,000.00 and we are unable to pay for all this on our own. So help us reach our goal of R$ 50,000.00 to send our girl to the surgery,” the family cries.

While waiting for Luiza’s resources and improvement to operate, the girl’s mother has closed her salon and remains in the hospital, completely dedicated to the little ones. Patrícia also has two other children: Gabrielly, 14, and Caleb, 5.
