Cast includes Brazilian and Korean actors
The first Brazilian drama premiered this Thursday, 20, on HBO Max. Beyond the Wardrobe tells the story of Carol, a teenager of Korean descent who deals with her mother’s death and her father’s abandonment, while at the same time living a stressful attempt to pass a ballet competition.
The cast was balanced between Brazilian and Korean actors. Kim Woo-jinwho plays Woojin, for example, was born in South Korea and was a member of Stray Kids. Sharon Choalso of Korean origin, plays the lead role.
A wardrobe serves as a gateway to South Korea, while the series serves a similar function in bringing cultures together. In an interview with GlamCho stated:
Our series is Brazilian, but it is inspired by Korean dramas and the biggest difference is certainly the meeting of a Brazilian cast with a Korean one. The series mixes cultures, languages in a very beautiful and fun way.
The plot takes place in Bom Retiro, in the city of São Paulo. The neighborhood is known to have a strong Korean influence.
According to Rakuten Vikia streaming of Asian productions (via Folha de S.Paulo), Brazil is second only to the United States and South Korea when it comes to watching dramas. Therefore, the new 10-episode series has a great chance of being successful in the country.
