The first recommendation is the choice of brush: nowadays there are good options for combing hair without pain. “The best are the ones I don’t have m those balls at the tip of the bristlesas they are softer and untangle without breaking the threads”, suggests the specialist.

With the correct tool, now is the time to adjust the movement: strand by strand, always from bottom to top, that is starting from the tips and progressively going up to the root. “If you start at the root, it will lead to increasing embarrassment for the ends and, as a result, even more damage to the hair,” he explains.

Remember that, since you are combing someone else’s hair, you must be careful and gentle. If your child is whining, it’s probably because he’s feeling uncomfortable. Combing strands “in the air”, without supporting them, can be worse. Place a towel behind her back and use one hand to hold the top of her hair while the other runs the brush through.

A good alternative to avoid pain is to comb your hair during the shower, but be careful: do it this way when applying the mask or conditioner, so that scrolling is easy. In this situation, the golden rule also applies: bottom-up. Luigi reminds you that these two products must be completely removed from the hair with water. Out of the shower, it’s possible use a leave-in combing cream. There are currently specific cosmetics for children that play this role very well!

Importantly, the hair frizzy and curly hair should only be combed when wet, with wide combs, so as not to break the threads. Using an oil before you shower can also help.

Finally, if your child wakes up with their hair very tangled, it might be a good idea to braid it before bed. “The next day, when you let it go, he’ll be wavy and frizz-free,” says the hairstylist. “Another option is the use of a cap or satin pillowcase during sleep, as they reduce friction and, consequently, frizz and embarrassment,” he concludes.
